I cant find out the difference in contents of eltroxine, 100mg thyroxine and generic mercury pharma 100mg thyroxine.

Generic makes me depressed. Eltroxine is fine.

I've emailed company but have been ignored

My gp surgery wont order me the thyroxine I need, I have to go all over the place, searching.

Ingredients of different brands of thyroid hormone replacement in this document on Thyroid UK's website:

Mercury Pharma Eltroxin and Mercury Pharma levothyroxine have the same ingredients, made by the same factory, have the same product licence numbers, the tablets have the same markings.

Some time ago, when Mercury Pharma changed the markings on the tablets, both products changed at the same time. And the Patient Information Leaflets also changed at the same time.

Although years ago there were a lot of people who claimed the two products were different, in recent times I do not recall anyone else saying there is still any difference.

I have not had any Mercury Pharma Eltroxin for some time so this is not from personal experience.

Could any difference be between batches rather than between the two differently branded packagings?

Hi helvella

To clarify I have been on 5 types of levo because of side affects I have colitis and the ingredients seem to affect me badly my gp changed me to Eltroxin saying it was for sensetive stomachs/bowles no change in my side affects still the same my gp has now said I'm either not converting the levo or I'm not absorbing it either way it's not working for me their appears to be no difference between Eltroxin and other levo brands.. I'm now left to deal with this my T3 is on the floor my endo appointment has been deferd I've woke up this morning with the worst headache I've ever had, I feel so bad I missed my levo this morning and to b quite Frank I don't feel like taking it at all..... 😭😭😭

I hate all thyroxine. I have side effects to all except eltroxine, I have dreadful depression on some headaches with an hour of taking others.

It's a minefield.

I cant find eltroxine anywhere and my gp surgery wont order it

Hi

To be honest when I was prescribed it I couldn't get it at any chemist I had to go back to my surgery then they contacted someone and my 24 hour chemist got it in but it took 2 weeks.. Really don't know why because its no different than any other levo... 🤷‍♀️

Does that include Aristo? Only recently became available in the UK.

I think your GP is either woefully ignorant or was saying it to make you feel better. There is absolutely nothing about Mercury Pharma's levothyroxine tablets, whether or not branded Eltroxin, that suggests it is for sensitive stomachs or bowels.

It is possible that one of the oral solutions might work better for you.

Hi helvella

Like you I think he was just humouring me the only thing is he knows I'm not good with synthetic meds this was born out when he made me take the anti thiyroid meds neither worked they made me very ill I eventually went in to thyroid storm and was rushed to hospital.

Now I'm told I'm not either converting the levo or not absorbing.. The latter seem more plausible because my T3 is on the floor.. I was going to see an endo about getting T3 but that's been put on hold.. My next thyroid bloods are due now but I've just received a text saying can I make an appointment for my next bloods in 5 weeks.. I really do not feel well at all 😢😢😢

Well I wish you the best in getting to a better place.

If you are not absorbing, your FT4 would be low as well. If you are not converting, your FT4 could even be high.

Hi

Yes my T4 is very low too this should have been investigated by my endo but this virus as prevented that app from taking place. I also have an ENT appointment in the city in April to which I would very much like to attend as in this last year I have been having a right leaking nostril clear fluid and really bad heads woke up this morning with the worst one ever and I've been comatose most of today.. I went partially deaf in my left ear also and still am I now have an earing aid but they don't know why I suddenly lost part my earing.. With this And not responding to levo I feel so ill...

Ps... Also I have no thiyroid it was removed may last year.. 😭

They are almost certainly identical, the same tablets. If they have the same Product Licence numbers they are the same. Page 9 of this BTF Newsletter gives details btf-thyroid.org/Handlers/Do... .
