Advise re Thyroid and high liver enzymes πŸ™„

hello everyone

Please can you let me know the email address of Dionne. I wish to find out if there is a recommended private Endo near Newcastle. I have Hypo sympoms (cold/bone and muscle pains and cognitive impairment, understanding, memory etc.) My levels T4 and T3 are upper range and TSH is around 0.4. On 125 Thyroxin. GP reluctant to issue more. Also have high liver enzymes Alt etc but liver is okay.

Could the raised liver enzymes be a thyroid issue do you think?

Has anybody any ideas?

Yours hopefully

Jane

Yes, I've read that thyroid disease can cause high liver enzymes. My ALT was about 2x upper limits of normal. Has come down since I've been taking T3.

That's interesting. Did your GP prescribe T3?

I dont really understand how thyroid disease can cause Elevated enzymes? Are you Hypothyroid?

Not sure how hypothyroidism causes increased liver enzymes. Possibly something to do with a DIO1 enzyme deficiency (which I have). DIO1 works in the liver to convert T4 to free T3, the active enzyme. Just guessing here. I did have an endocrinologist start me on T3 when I was very sick, but she wouldn't go above 20 mcg/d, so I found a functional medicine doctor willing to work with me, going by signs/symptoms, monitoring vital signs per Paul Robinson's protocol. Turns out labs aren't very helpful when taking T3 only.

I haven't heard of P. Rs protocol will look that up.

do you mean T3 without T4 not helpfull?

It's all so complicated but I am learning so much from this site.

Thank you 😊

Some people have problems converting LT4 (levothyroxine) into the active Free T3. Some people feel better on T3 only (but it's a last resort.)

I have had high liver enzymes in the past but they are now ok. I think it is all to do with my thyroid disease.
