Did you get the earliest possible appointment, fasting (you can drink water) and if/when diagnosed allow 24 hoursgap between last dose and test and take afterwards.
p.s. you also need Thyroid Antibodies tested. If present you'd have another type of thyroid disease called Hashimoto's (if antibodies are present) and should be prescribed.
TSH does not go by age. TSH is the pituitary gland putting out hormones to stimulate the thyroid to make more thyroid hormones because it detects a need for them.

If we use the same reference interval of TSH in older patients as is younger patients, there is a chance of over-diagnosis of subclinical thyroid disease, which could lead to unnecessary treatment with levothyroxine in the older population.’
I see your point that tsh is more thyroid related than age however I saw few times on that forum that in my age range, tsh should be lower than in the upper half of the range.
