Best levels to aim for.....

Following advice from my Cardiologist, I was referred to an Endocrinologist. After tests which included a nuclear thyroid scan, I was advised to have Radioactive Iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism which was carried out on 21 Jan. I’m due to have blood tests soon, prior to first review with Endo on 3 March. As I understand it, blood levels take a while to settle and there is a good chance I could end up being hypothyroid and need Levothyroxine treatment. The ranges used by the lab are:

TSH. 0.35 - 5.00 T4. 9.00 - 22.0 T3. 2.3 - 5.1

My question is, is it normally OK to be anywhere within the range or, from your experience, are their optimum levels to aim for. Thanks

What have your experts at the Royal Marsden told you to expect ?

Exactly as stated. Not sure I can see the connection......however, as soon as I posted, a number of previous, similar posts appeared which answered the question......TSH around 1, T4/3 around the middle but all really depends on how well you feel........

I operate on a TSH of 0.02 which is great for me! TSH of 1 and I’d rather stay in bed!🤓

Me too, my TSH rose from 0.02 to 0.2 quite a few years ago when my T3 was stopped. I looked and felt like death. Even the endo admitted i wasn't right.

Most important results are Ft3 followed by FT4

Ft3 should be at least half way through range

TSH often remains suppressed after Graves so is not accurate test

Important to regularly test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin

These frequently too low with Graves and if hypothyroid

Many need to supplement to maintain good vitamin levels. This helps levothyroxine work better

Medichecks or Blue Horizon offer private testing

Thyroid test should be early morning before eating or drinking any thing apart from water

When on levothyroxine, last dose 24 hours prior to blood test..

NHS rarely tests Ft3

Add most recent test results if you have any

Or come back with new post once get tested
