Thyroid S Timed release?

Does anyone know if Thyroid - S is timed release? If so how long does the "TIME" last ?

I've seen posts say that the "S" means slow release, but never seen anything about how long it takes for the whole of the tablet to be fully absorbed.

I too have seen it claimed but without any evidence whatsoever.

The sugar coating, sometimes pointed out, would dissolve as soon as it comes into contact with water-based liquids such as saliva and the acid/enzyme mixture in the stomach. Rather than act as a slow release coating.

If anyone has a "spare" Thyroid S tablet or two, how about trying a few things like a) dropping it into a glass of lukewarm water (about body temperature); b) put in their mouth, ensuring it is thoroughly slathered in saliva, and spitting out onto a tissue; c) seeing if a tablet does dissolve/disperse if ground up and mixed with some water - then taken. See if doing that makes any difference to the impact of the tablet.

(Suggestion c) is something that could be a bad idea. It is said to make a point rather than to be taken as a literal suggestion.)

It does dissolve when it comes into contact with saliva it’s kind of lumpy as it dissolves like there are thin slivers of tissue in it which I assume is the pig thyroid ground up but don’t really know

Eudragit (a common sustain-released coating)

This, I believe, is likely a misunderstanding. There are many products branded Eudragit with many different characteristics.

Without precise identification, we have no idea what effect it has in the Thyroid S formulation. But sustained release probably requires a substance within the body of the tablet and not just a coating. (As you pointed out, coatings are often used to protect the tablet against the effects of stomach acid and the stomach from the tablet.)

I have also heard the Thyroid S is time release. I commented at the time I wasn’t aware of that but it does work like one in that I take all my dose at once and never felt any dip throughout the day. I can’t remember how long I’ve been taking it but 4 or 5 years.

I have recently started on 1 and a half grains (building up slowly!) so far have not felt a dip Take about 4 am or when I waken for toilet. How much are you taking?

I only need one dose of it a day and never notice any dips it seems smooth I take 2 grains a day am before food etc sublingually, but may have a sip of pineapple juice with it. I think STTM says it is slow release from their research/analysis of the tablets.

I have also taken acella and naturethyroid (pre reformulation) and it compared very favourably to those. Possibly a bit smoother.

I too take Thyroid " S " : dose once a day and find it a very smooth daily medication :

I haven't tried any other NDT so can't compare the product :

I have read of people crunching, chewing and then swallowing down with water and dosing more than once during a 24 hour cycle.

I'm with Graves following RAI thyroid ablation.

Hi pennyannie (lovely name) agree no prob. daily med. I tried crunching when I started - half grain, but the taste was not to my taste - if you know what I mean. Now on one and a half grain and swallow as one dose . What are you on?...if you don't mind saying!

I am taking 1 + 1/2 tablets/grains at around 3-4 in the morning and have been on this dose for about a year.

Thank you . Me too on this dose but just started so will continue for a bit. I am hypo.
