Hi so this is my 5th day on thyroid-s as of now its working good and symptoms have dissapeared on 2.5 grains swallowing it 2 to 3 hours away from food...ive always had some heartburn on and off before these pills and i always took my ndt sublingually so didnt have to worry about thyroid hormones and digestion ..i dont want to eat food with the pill so any other ideas to prevent heartburn not sure if its from the pill exactly but i been noticing it more since taking..i was thinking maybe i can have yogurt with it since its easy to digest eventually i want to get my body used to taking sublingually to avoid digestion issues thanks everyone

You certainly can't take thyroid hormone with yoghurt. Calcium is one of the worst things for stopping your hormone being digested. It's really best to take it away from food, but you don't have to wait three hours. 1 hour is fine.

You probably have heartburn due to low stomach acid. Hypos usually have low stomach acid, but the symptoms are the same as high stomach acid.

i always took my ndt sublingually so didnt have to worry about thyroid hormones and digestion

Actually, you should have worried, because your hormone wasn't being absorbed through the membrane, the molecules are too large. You would just have swallowed the dissolved powder with your saliva, and it would have bound to any iron or calcium present in your food.

You can't take any food with thyroid hormone. You need to take it on an empty stomach and leave at least an hour before eating or drinking anything other than water.

on taking sublingually i been doing tht method since 2006 so i guess it worked out ok for.me

Depends on your definition of 'ok'. You won't have been getting a full dose.

I was optimal for a long time doing that method well for.me that is🙂everyone is different i became sick again once i started the bad np cat piss ndt pills.lol but maybe my thyroid hormones at times wasn't absorbing as i thought but the way i felt and labs showed i was good...i been waiting 2 or 3 hours ugh.lol from what i read i had to wait up to 4 hours 😬 that kind of put a damper on eating anything all day since i take mine 3 times a day..im just trying to make sure i do it the right way so i dont have to take.more then what i really need because of food disturbing the process

Four hours is for certain supplements: iron, magnesium, calcium and vit D. Most food doesn't contain enough of those things to make a difference after an hour.

What about pepcid tabs?

As I said above, you probably have low stomach acid so pepcid tablets would be making that worse. If your stomach acid is low, you need to increase it, nor reduce it even further.

Taking your NDT sublingually, you would probably have absorbed some, but not the whole dose. So, without realising it, you were taking more to compensate.

By taking something like Apple Cider Vinager or HCL and pepsine, which you can buy on Amazon. But, I'm not very well up on that. Better to write a new question asking how to do it - if no-one else joins in and explains. :)

I too get heartburn, usually if I am slightly underdosed. When I was on Levothyroxine, I was getting it all day every day and the GP said it was high stomach acid. I knew better having read about it on this site. He did not believe in low stomach acid!

I take a pudding spoon of Cider Vinegar mixed with the same amount of water and a teaspoon on honey (to take the edge off) about an hour before a meal and do not have any problems now. A cheap, effective treatment (although red wine would have been better!).

Hope this helps.

I am on Thyroid - s and the only thing it does for me is switch off the terrible burning sensation! You are just increasing the acid in the stomach to what is near the normal levels so in theory it should help digest the food and help the whole gut. I just know I can eat what I want and not be in pain. It was like magic for me when I first tried it and I hope you find the same.

I find that a pudding spoon once a day is enough, so try that first - easy to up or down the dose to suit you. I take it an hour before my evening meal which is my main meal of the day. I seem to remember that a pudding spoon is half a tablespoon and that there are three teaspoons in a tablespoon. Why can I remember such random things when I have trouble remembering what day it is!!!
