Thyroid S

Hi fellow thyroid sufferers

I’ve recently started on Thyroid S purchased from Thailand and am taking 2.5 grains like I did with my Thyroid T Man, I think it was called (pink tablets) and I don’t know whether it’s because I’ve not had great sleep lately or due to changing to this new NDT, but I’ve noticed my eyes are starting to have a slight bulge under them again which was all but gone on the previous NDT (which I can’t source anymore)

Has anyone had similar experiences on changing from one to the other please? I do have Graves Disease and had a TT a few years ago

Responses gratefully received as always 🙏

Hello Jaxie :

We are looking at a ' natural ' substance and pig thyroids and there is a tolerance level allowed within the stated 9 mcg T3 + 38 mcg T4 of 10% :

So we are looking at a T3 of 8.10 - 9.90 mcg and a T4 of between 34.20 - 41.80 in order to maintain the unique ratio of - 1/4.22 - T3/T4 - as found in all brands of NDT.

The same potential variance applies with any brand of NDT and every new batch within the same brand can be that little bit more or less potent than your current dose.

So, I think you may need consider adjusting this new batch, from a new supplier by 1/4 grains if concerned as to the potency.

Can you monitor on blood pressure, pulse and body temperature as there's an more immediate measure there perhaps ?

No thyroid hormone replacement works well until your core strength vitamin and minerals, especially those of ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D are up and maintained at optimal ?

P.S. Reading around there is also a tolerance variance within the production of all thyroid hormone treatment options so this is not just unique to NDT !!

Thank you

Do you mean increase or decrease by quarter of a grain?

Depends on the symptoms being tolerated :

You need to try learn to read your body and agjust accordingly.

Have you ever overmedicated and know what to look for in the way of uncomfortable symptoms ?

Constipation is generally a common symptom of a slower metabolism - whereas a loose bowel one of a faster metabolism ?

It's a fine line and different for all of us :

I confess I'm much improved on NDT but still need to take vitamin C to bowel tolerance and supplement all the core strength vitamins and minerals daily -

so I've fixed myself to a degree - but with a lot of support !!

Hi. I am on Thyroid S and I have found it to be stronger than the nature throid I was on previously. I used to take 2 1/2 grains of nature throid and now only take 1 3/4 Thyroid S. Maybe get your all your thyroid levels checked to see what's going on.

Hi Helvella

I tried Thyroid S for the first time - and I did not feel well on it - bloating, weight gain and hairloss got worse on it and new symptom of depression and brain fog. I just looked up the batch number - it's TA21079. The one that seems to have been found unsatisfactory by some users. Thanks for this resource. tablets are pale beige. I had taken Nature Throid for years and did well on it and was upset when it was discontinued. I have since bought some scarily expensive Armour , - and didn't feel that well on that either. Dose I take is 1.5 grains. Reluctant to take more as got fast heart and high BP when tried to gradually up dose of Armour to 2 and a bit when trying to lose weight. I am back on 100mcg of Levo from my doctor (NDT bottles still in date and left in drawer) I will leave off taking it on Sunday and do a finger prick thyroid blood test on Monday from Monitor My Health. I am doing all I can to lose weight and bloating but not succeeding - thin dry hair but never had constipation in my life - more usually the opposite - but better diet and avoiding gluten etc has normalised that. Joint pain in my hands a lot better since going back on Levo. I live in the UK. Do you think my blood test will help?

When taking Levo you take the last dose 24 hours before the test, so don't leave off Sunday's dose, take it as usual but make sure the timing gives you 24 hours before you intend doing the test on Monday. If you leave off Sunday's dose you will get a false low FT4 result. Then after you've done the test take Monday's dose.

If you want interpretation of your results when your receive them then make a new post of your own and include all necessary information.

Hi Helvella,

What do the percentages relate to on your blogpost, and where do the figures come from?

I am struggling on batch 23T01001 but it’s the first time Ive tried Thyroid S. Just trying to work out if it’s the tablets or something else. Was on Nature Throid and then more recently NP Thyroid. Thank you.

The percentages of claimed potency.

With a claimed T4 content of 38 micrograms, and an actual batch assay of 102.90%, that works out to contain 39.102 micrograms of T4.

The numbers have been provided to some individuals - I think by the manufacturer.

Hi I have been on Thyroid s for over seven years. At 2.25 grains I was well and my FT3 was perfect too. On 2.5 grains my FT3 would go well over range so lowering by just 1/4 may make a difference. I have only ever tried Armour NDT during covid when I ran out of Thyroid s it was much too quick acting for me. Thyroid s has a special coating for a slower release. The recent batches from 2022 are different to the old ones. I never had any trouble until the new 2022 batches arrived. It's just a matter on 1/4 grain. Do you take yours in a split dose?

Pill cutter or alternate half a grain one day, omit the next.

SeasideSusie profile image

Paquita

You can't alternate dose of NDT, as it contains T3 it's important to take the same dose every day.

Paquita profile image
Paquita in reply toSeasideSusie

OK. I used to cut 1/4 grains, but switched to alternating 3 and 3.5 grains. I've not had problems and not felt a difference with same dose every day, but maybe someone else will.

A Pill cutter cut one into four pieces.
