Hi I am looking for any advice regarding normal blood tests for my thyroid. I have all the symptoms of a thyroid problem and have suffered for years. I have chronic fatigue, feeling cold, hair loss, joint and muscle pain. Could it be that the tests would come back normal even if I do have a problem? I am 60 now and have suffered for years with no one being able to tell me what is wrong with me. I would love to feel normal especially now I am getting older.
I look forward to any help you can give me.

What are your normal results? We need to see your TSH, T4, T3 and vitamin D, B12, Iron and Ferritin. If any of those are not right it can give you the symptoms you have just described.
I am also 60 and have been suffering from Graves' for 12 years now but I am in remission for now and feel very well. When I was ill I lost a lot of hair and some of my nails lifted from their nail beds. I was was also bedridden and suffered with blurred vision and night sweats.
Medichecks Thyroid or Blue Horizon are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Folate is slightly low. Eating more folate rich foods...eg cabbage, salad, watercress, greens
Vitamin D on low side
GP will only prescribe to bring vitamin D up to 50nmol. Aiming to improve by self supplementing to at least 80nmol and around 100nmol may be better .
Government recommends everyone supplement October to April
Your TSH should be about 1 which means your thyroid is struggling. Doctors won't treat you until it reaches 10 which could take years they like to see us suffer. When I had a TSH of 9 I could not get out of bed and my hair was falling out at about a hundred hairs a day .... yes I counted them. I would ask your doctor for a trial of Levothyroxine a starting dose of 50mcg would be good. He will probably refuse so ask to be referred to a Consultant Endocrinologist to see of he will help your failing thyroid ... he might not but at least they might do further tests. Come back to this site and tell us what your Doctor says when you tell him this site thinks your thyroid is starting to fail.
