Dr Toft has retired.

Hello everyone.

After six weeks of feeling very ill . Excruciatingly pain exhaustion migraine etc I decided to make a appointment with Dr Toft. Dr Toft has now retired and in his place is a lady called Dr A.

Wow what a breath of fresh air. She treats on a person centred listen to the patient view. She was amazing, friendly funny and very interested in all I had to say.

Anyway she said I will never be well unless I have my thyroid out ‘yet again’ She was sympathetic when I said I would not have Radio active iodine to destroy the thyroid. I told her my husband is it nuclear engineer and he was highly against it. So now I am awaiting to see her ex-husband who she rates very highly. He also is an endocrinologist and does thyroid surgery.

My biggest surprise was that she wrote me a prescription for T3 asking me how much I would like. I was so shocked I just asked her for three months supply and then didn’t know what to do with it. I now have a private prescription for T3 I’m not sure what to do with it.

Can anybody tell me what they do if they receive a private prescription and where indeed they send it. If that isn’t allowed to be stated on here can somebody private message me.

I shall let you know how I get on when I see her ex husband. Not sure I can put myself through surgury again but shall see what he says.

All the best to everyone

Tanya

A private prescription can, while we are in the EU, be used at one of the pharmacies mentioned here:

Hope the numbers of tablets match what the pharmacies supply - or the doctor will re-issue in a revised number (multiple of 20 micrograms for Henning Thybon).

I have had to remove the doctor's name from your post as it contravenes guidelines.

It's better if the prescription is for multiples of 50 or 100 tablets as this is the pack size of Thybon Henning, you could ask for your prescription to be rewritten if the quantity is wrong. If your prescription is for e.g. 96 tablets they would only be able to supply 50 (I'm not dead certain on this you would have to check). UK supplied liothyronine is incredibly expensive, not really an option. I've also found the Thybon Henning to be superior to UK tablets.

Thanks for that. She gave me a prescription for 90 tablets. I shall ask her to change it.

Thanks for all the advice x

I assume this is 90 x 5mcg Liothyronine?

sigmapharm.com/products/lio...

The hospital pharmacy where you saw her should be able to supply (at good price )

Approx £126 for 90 tablets on private prescription

NHS being charged 3 times this price for identical product

Maybe she wrote the prescription to give to the hospital I was at. I didn't really think as I was shocked she gave it to me.

Disgusting what they charge on the NHS, it's made a huge difference to my life. I often think what will happen when I am old or in a home and can't get it. All that pain again and confused.

Horrible thought!

Thanks for your reply.
