Severe sinus issues, ears.
This is my go to sinus relief :
3/4 fill a mug with tomato juice.
Add 1 teaspoon lemon juice.
1 clove of garlic, crushed.
1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce. More if you like.
You can add a small piece of crushed ginger if you like it.
Stir, heat and drink 2 mugs of this a couple of hours apart.
Thank you,
I bought myself a cheap facial sauna (Argos) and steam regularly when my sinuses are bad. I’ve tried with and without things like Olbas oil added but I think it’s better without so I just use plain water now.
I also keep drinking water and use a Beconase sinus spray which I used to have it prescribed but now have to buy my own.
In the past I’ve also used a neti pot and a NeilMed saline wash which is good too.
I also use Earol olive oil spray but not too much because for me there is a fine line between helping and not. Every now and again I go and have the build up of wax suctioned out, the idea is that I use the spray every couple of weeks or so to stop wax building up.
I had terrible sinus / ear problems before my Graves’ disease was treated, had no problems while I was being treated and now my TSH is creeping up but unfortunately is still within the range, my sinuses and ears are bad again so if you can get your thyroid levels to your optimal place then I think that might help.
Oh, so did you have a low thyroid or high? What were your ear problems you were having when your thyroid was up?
I was heading for or more likely already had Graves but wasn’t checked - in fact three months before I was finally so ill I was diagnosed a GP told me I was needing a holiday!
Once I was being treated the sinusitis disappeared. That was back in 2012-2013 and I’ve been in remission since then.
My TSH has gradually crept up over the years and I’ve had a few bouts of sinusitis in the past year. Unfortunately my TSH is within the range - obviously not at the best place for me but enough to keep my doctor happy.
My left ear feels ‘full’ all the time, it’s hard to explain but apart from tinnitus in it I’m not aware of my right ear at all, I occasionally have earache, I have constant tinnitus in both ears - a high pitched buzz / whistle.
I’ve tried all the things suggested by the others although I tend not to be very organised with what I do to cure it. I start with paracetamol then add in steaming, nose spray, antihistamines, Olbas oil, eucalyptus oil, Vicks Vapour rub last thing at night etc. Then if time goes on and nothing happens I go to my GP for antibiotics is my last port of call but I try to avoid that if I can.
I think a lot of people don’t realise how debilitating sinusitis can be.
Try a saline nasal spray such as Sterimar or use a neti pot twice daily.
I find I get sinus block type symptoms all in my face and head when I am over medicated with levo! X
Menthol crystals bought cheaply from the chemist always works for me. Just sprinkle a few in steaming water and carefully breath in the vapour. You don't need to use many crystals or it will blow your socks off!
If your ears are truly congested, (have a doctor look inside) you need to open the ear canal by holding your nose and blowing outward until your ears pop. Many doctors have told me to do this to open the canal. Then blow your nose gently and then use a nose spray to further open the canal to let any fluid behind the eardrum drain through the throat. This works rapidly to get relief from allergies that create swelling that blocks the natural drainage of fluid.
I've had this problem for many years and it works every time. An additional method to add to this is to take an antihistamine to completely dry out the fluid. This is optional, of course, but effective.
Was yours a pressure feeling?
If you mean pressure in my ear, yes. It usually started with a throbbing pain in my ear. I put colloidal silver drops in my ear and the pain went away, but it didn't clear up the fluid. I became dizzy soon after, and then went to a doctor who saw a lot of fluid behind my eardrum. I knew then, to do what doctors prescribed before, which is what I described to you in my post.
