I am 68 yrs old. I'm on 125mg of thyroxine. I had a mini stroke and I was on HRT. 3 months on and I am getting hot flushes every 2hrs. Is it safe to use menopace for this as at the moment it seems to be working.?

Sorry you haven’t had any replies so will try to start the ball rolling! I’ve never heard of Menopace so have not isea of what it does and how it works. Thinking back I was stopped HRT after 10 years in my early 50’s but around that point I went back to my doctor privately who had diagnosed me in the first place telling him something wasn’t quite right. He told me to go back to first principles for three months and record my waking temperature daily. Did this and he studied my results and told me they showed I was still ovulating and looking at the graph that looked to be a sound diagnoses. Yet another doctor had put me on HRT and it was now looking probable that I’d taken HRT when in actual fact my periods stopping was more likely down to badly managed thyroid.

I then thought back to my late grandmother. She had brought me up and I remembered she had told me her periods stopped at 32. Mine stopping early but not that early made me think my experience was normal. Gran also had PA and as I learnt more about thyroid issues I suspected she probably had as well. But all this meant I didn’t know where I stood with anything so made me wonder if something was contributing to your issues. What age did your periods stop? My experience meant I know very little about a ‘normal’ menopause. So I take it you have just recently had the mini stroke and stopped HRT? May me more info may help others to comment but I wish you well.

Thanks for your reply I had very heavy periods at 51 yrs old diagnosed with fybriods in my womb and underactive thyroid. I was given a drug to stop me bleeding which also brought on the menopause. I had an operation to remove the fybriods by scraping the womb, which thankfully they don't do now ,because I nearly died because I lost so much blood. They left I fybriod in . The drug they gave me, gave me horrible hot flushes and night sweats every 2 hrs. Went on HRT but now after 16 years dr won't prescribe any more. Hot flushes and night sweats came back am crawling up the walls. Trying natural way ie;menopace don't know if it affects thyroxine.

Thank you for telling us more. It was the HRT that worried me but I think I read somewhere that HRT only moves the hot flashes on rather that getting rid of them and I don’t know whether that is true either but may be it isn’t a quick fix but needs to taper off. Whether asking you GP for his thoughts and is Is the way to go could put you mind at rest but from reading a lot in the past then it would appear we can be very different.

I think Menopace contains soya which isn't recommended when you have thyroid problem. I think it interferes with (thyroxine?) absorption. Sorry I can't quite remember those details.

I was taken off my wonderful HRT after an early breast cancer scare, and I've had hot flushes and night sweats every since, for over 10 years! Nights have been the worst, so my sleep has been awful. I've tried every kind of supplement and nothing's worked. Had to stop soya as I take thyroid meds.

I tried sage tablets which didn't seem to do much. But I've just started Vogel Menosan sage drops and they are definitely helping quite a bit. Pretty disgusting taste, but it's worth it. I assume they're stronger than the sage tablets

Thanks for your reply I will check out soya and thyroxine. If it comes back as not compatible I may give the sage tablets you mentioned a try.
