Sun2shine - Thiroyd

I was shocked to discover that I can no longer buy my Thiroyd tablets - but I can get something called Thyroid S. Can anyone tell me if there much difference between them.

I've had Autoimmune Hypothyroidism most of my life and as I'm highly allergic to Thyroxine the whole scenario of getting tablets that suit me has been one nightmare after another.

I was on Thiroyd and for a few days, I swap on Thyroid-S(slow release) . It seems to be weaker than Thiroyd and after I take it, my mouth and my palms became dry, aching joints, but after about an hour everything returns to normal. Many people feel good on it but I think it doesn't suit me. I have to find another alternative.

Thyroid-S is actually slightly stronger than Thiroyd.

Thyroid-S : per tablet contains 38 mcg Levothyroxine (T4) and 9 mcg Liothyronine (T3)

Thiroyd : per tablet contains T4 at 35 microgram and T3 at 8.31 microgram

Thyroid-S has some kind of coating on it that some people can't deal with very well and they feel under-medicated on it compared to Thiroyd, despite Thiroyd containing lower levels of thyroid hormones than Thyroid-S.

sun2shine, How we react to the various thyroid hormone products, whether they be NDTs, levothyroxines, or liothyronines is such a very individual thing. The only way to know what will or will not suit you is trial and error. As you say, finding the right medication can be one nightmare after another for many of us. It might be worth buying a sample pack of thyroid-s to trial it, if your source offers this, before you invest in a full bottle.

Thanks for your reply RedApple: Apparently the manufacturers have stopped producing Thiroyd tablets altogether as they have a problem with their licence and there is no guarantee that they will make any more. which is a huge worry as I was doing so well on them.

They don't seem to do sample packs of Thyroid S. I'll just have to bite the bullet and hope for the best.

I am doing fine on Thyroid-S. Most of the other NDTs got too expensive for me, especially the ones from USA. Thyroid-S are actually just a tad stronger, but not so you would notice.

Thank you serenfach - I will give them a try - we have so few choices left to us now it's worrying what the future holds.

In the meantime, I came back on Thiroyd. I don't know why Thiroyd-S gave me those nasty reactions. So I was left with a bottle for sale for those who want :))

Thanks for getting back. Apparently the manufacturers have stopped producing Thiroyd tablets altogether as they have a problem with their licence and there is no guarantee that they will make any more, so perhaps you should hang on to your Thyroid S tablets just in case.

If I don't find any solution I will have to go back on Tirosint+T3 but for the moment I have one and a half bottle of Thiroyd. I did a search on ebay and I still found some old batches of Thiroyd.

I'm also allergic to synthetic. I've just discovered this news. I'm going to have to order thyroid-s but I'm dreading this coating. Thiroyd was really working for me. I hope this switch goes well for you and me both! X
