Thyroid Tests

Hi,

I had some recent thyroid tests. I've been told they are within the 'normal' range

Please can anyone assist in analysing the results. Would any of the levels be symptomatic?

T4 - 92 nmol/l. (59-154)

TSH - 1.33 mIU/l (27-4.2)

Free T4 - 14.6[/URL] pmol/l. (12-22)

Free T3 - 4.5 pmol/l. (3.1-6.8)

TPEX - 3.9 IU/ml. (0 -34)

TGAB - 10.5 IU/ml. (0-115)

Thanks in advance

Do you already have a diagnosis of hypothyroidism and on Levo? It makes a difference as to how we interpret results whether you are on Levo or not.

OK, so your results are classed as euthyroid (normal).

In a normal healthy person one would expect to see TSH no more than 2 with FT4 around mid-range+. Your FT4 is only 26% through it's range so that is quite low. Your antibodies are nice and low so don't suggest autoimmune thyroid disease.

What symptoms do you have? Some vitamin deficiencies or low levels can cause symptoms that overlap with hypothyroidism so it would be a good idea to test

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

I'm guessing that your test was done by Blue Horizon perhaps, did you not do the thyroid/vitamin bundle?

Hi, I have a range of symptoms, joint and muscle pain, fatigue, sweating (what feels like a low grade fever but my temp is normal) , palpitations, digestive issues, waking up in the night wide awake and heavy periods.

I didn't use blue horizons so it was just the thyroid tests mentioned.

Do you mean if I test for the other things that any deficiencies may be driving some of my lower range thyroid results or that rather than being a thyroid issue it could be a vit b deficiency for instance. Thanks!

Joint and muscle pain can be low Vit D.

Fatigue can be low ferritin or low B12.

Heavy periods can lead to iron deficiency.

Digestive issues can be low B12.

Sleep disturbances/insomnia can be low B12.

Palpitations can be low B12.

So you can see why it's important to check nutrient levels.

I would either ask GP to do those vitamin tests or do them privately. They tend to be cheapest when done in a thyroid/vitamin bundle with one of our recommended labs.
