I am on holiday in Portugal, am wondering if anyone knows if you can buy levothyroxine here without prescription? I have my medicine boxes with my name etc on and wondered if I might be able to buy 25mcg tablets as I want to try increasing my dose for 3 months then retesting, I take 125mcg currently but my T4 and T3 are not high enough. If I am feeling better and in range after my “trial” on 150mcg ( or even take an extra 25 every other day) it might be easier to make the point to my GP that I need an increase. I am pretty sure I do but after years of trying to get somewhere, this might be an option? Advice would be great thanks

Buying Levo in Portugal?
I'm not sure but you could pop into a pharmacy and ask, if you show them your Levo box there should be no problem with them understanding what you are asking if they don't speak English.
Hi, I lived in the Algarve in Portugal up until just recently and never had a problem getting my levo over the counter with my empty box on those occasions I didn’t have a prescription. The pharmacists are always helpful and many speak English. Hope this helps.
Thanks that’s really helpful, I am hoping I can get 3 months supply. If you don’t mind me asking, how much is it likely to cost? 25mcg tablets or could get 50mcg and keep my 25mcg prescription ones to use later
For a box of 60 x 200mg I paid €4.82, so not expensive and I got 4 boxes just before I moved home to Norway no problem, they’re normally really helpful, certainly where I lived.
Well that was very easy, took my empty box pf 25mcg to pharmacy in Portimao, got two boxes of 60 x 25mcg for less than 7 Euros. So grateful for help of this forum! Will see if taking extra levo makes a difference.
