Very suppressed TSH

Good morning all!

I got my lab results back yesterday and I need your input on the readings so I have something to defend myself with when I visit my Dr on Monday.

I am currently on 88 mcg Levoxyl and 5 mcg Cytomel(generic). My Dr will NOT be happy with the TSH results.

TSH .05 (0.27-4.68)

FT4 1.26 (0.85- 1.76)

FT3 3.8 (2.3-4.2).

BW was done fasting and 8 hrs after dosing.

I am really happy with my FT3 results after the instruction of Cytomel it was 2.8 without.

Is having a very suppressed TSH something to worry about? I had a TT last September

T3 lowers, even suppresses TSH, that's just what it does. If you take T3 you're not very likely to have a TSH result that will satisfy a doctor. If your doctor is prescribing the T3 then he ought to know this.

Did you only leave 8 hours after your Levo as well as your T3? If so then your FT4 result is probably higher than normal, we should have last dose of Levo 24 hours before blood draw, and last dose of T3 8-12 hours before blood draw.

My TSH comes back at <0.005, 0.01 or <0.02 depending on which lab does the test, it's been like that for years, even before I introduced T3. GP doesn't like it one bit and keeps telling me I'm overmedicated, I just tell her to look at the actual thyroid hormone levels - FT4 and FT3, they are in range so I can't be overmedicated.

Thanks Susie,

I only took my T3 8 hrs before the test and the levo after the test so there were at least 24 hrs between levo doses.

I do worry that my Dr(she) will want to reduce my Levo and I don't want that. Your response gives me piece of mind and I thank you for that.

Remind your GP that how you feel is more important. Also you are without a thyroid ... sounds as if your GP does not understand the workings of the thyroid. Let us know how it goes on Monday ...

Marz, you are right, sometimes I feel like I am educating her about thyroid issues. When I requested the addition of T3 it was a straggled but she finally came around.

I definitely let you know how it goes Monday.

Thanks

Had my Dr appointment and just like I suspected she(Dr) started to give me a lecture about how the suppressed TSH was going to make osteoporosis worse even though I showed the links slowdragon posted(thanks again SlowDragon) she would have none of it.

I told her that I wanted to be treated by how I feel and not by numbers, and with my FT4 and FT3 being on the optimal levels I was feeling much, much better and that I wanted to keeps things as they are. So no med changes!

What a pity your GP is not up to speed with the research ! So good your meds stay the same and are keeping you well.

I know, I always get stressed out everytime I have to see her because I know I am going to have to fight for my wellbeing so I always come armed with the studies to prove my case...but still. I shouldn't have to be the one educating her. So I feel.

So true ! She will eventually get the message when she sees your improvement. If not then time to go it alone !

They are great links. Thanks SlowDragon. Wish more endos and GPs in the UK could get the idea. Those of us on here who are hypo haven’t found it hard to work out! 🤸🏿‍♀️🥛
