My endocrinologist ordered hormone blood tests and I have received them back. I am past the menopause and my testosterone level is 0.7 I think normal is (15-70) and progesterone is 0.5, normal over 25. I have been told that this can be the cause of hypothyroidism and caused by adrenal fatigue. I am 62 and tired, lethargic, not interested in sex, fat, weak and depressed. Any suggestions or information?

Low Progesterone and low testosterone levels
Do you know the units of measurement for your 0.7 reading? You’ve referenced 15-70 as normal but that only applies if it’s the same units of measurement and I have a feeling it won’t be because that range is mentioned on a US website. Are you in the U.K.?
I vaguely remember my other half having a reading of 2 for her testosterone reading which was deemed to be acceptable at the time.
Further to above, see: southtees.nhs.uk/services/p...
0.7 would seem to be in the range.
Whow what endo do you see that they have tested for progesterone and testosterone past the menopause age - suggest it was private - I had the same problem - but tried progesterone cream and tablets and did not like what they did to my breast tissue - swelling of the breast and as I am not convinced it is oestrogen that causes breast cancer as I believe from research that progesterone is also involved heavily - I decided to leave it alone but knew that most of my symptoms were progesterone related and I agree with the endo that the thyroid is implicated in this. I tried testosterone cream but as there are no longer any female dose brands I had to use a male brand albeit a tiny dose but I didn't like what it made me feel like - very aggressive even at small dose. So I have decided to take DHEA which makes testosterone and oestrogen in small doses and I feel a lot better. I have Addison's and went to a talk with Professor Wass of Oxford University and he was stating that if us adrenal patients are still exhausted after treatment then DHEA is the way to go. Hope this helps.
Found this too:-
A progesterone-estrogen imbalance can similarly interfere with thyroid function as well as result from diminished thyroid function. ... Low progesterone in women between the ages of 30 and 50 may lead to autoimmune hypothyroiditis, or Hashimoto's disease, as a consequence of immune stimulation by the dominant estrogen.
I wonder what you should do if you have low testosterone, progesterone but high oestrogen. I guess dhea isnt an option as it could raise oestrogen?

My main problem is that my muscle has turned into droopy flappy wobbly fat with horrible cellulite. I used to be very strong windsurfing etc but can't even lift the sail up now. My face looks like someone much much older, actually my 95 year old Mum has much better skin than me.
I'm sorry your experiencing some hardships . Doing some BW with your FT4 FT3 TSH would be very helpful . In addition checking gut/liver/gallbladder issues are very vital . Try to find a NP that has experiences with this . Our emotional physical wellbeing depends on our healthy guts/liver/gallbladder .
Best Wishes .
