Has anyone experienced hypothyroidism and low testosterone? My husband has most of the symptoms of hypothyroidism (TSH test 1.4) and has been diagnosed as having low testosterone (below what is considered low). The NIH has a study that says if the thyroid is treated the testosterone levels will rise. I have also heard that low testosterone can mess up the validity of the TSH test.

low testosterone
Welcome to the group.
Do you have any further blood results for your husband? A TSH of 1.4 would be within most normal ranges. An FT4 result and FT3 would be really helpful.
Test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together early morning around 9am
Also test thyroid antibodies for autoimmune thyroid disease (hashimoto’s)
And vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common as we get older, B12 especially

Symptoms of hypothyroidism
Has he had his prolactin tested? He needs his TSH and FT4 testing at the same time. He could have a pituitary issue causing Secondary Hypothyroidism. Pituitary problems can also cause secondary hypogonadism ie low testosterone.
