Hi all,

So been on Carbimazole for nearly 4weeks now. I still get the hot rushes through my body and sweating. Should I still be feeling like this after 4 weeks on medication?

It takes longer than 4 weeks for symptoms to reduce and to feel better, you will probably need dose changes along the way.

Oh really? How long can this medicine take to make you feel better ?

I got told at the endo clinic 6-12 weeks. It takes a looooong time for your body to use up the hormone that your thyroid has stored.

Have you not been prescribed beta blockers as well? I was already taking 25mg atenelol but it was upped to 50mg. The increase stopped my palpitations in a week and also really eased the tremors. I only have a very minimal tremor now.

Ah, I'm sorry you're still getting palpitations. Maybe have a word with your doctor about it? Perhaps there's something else that you could take. I *hated* the palpitations, was so pleased when they eased off.

Well this is the first time in 3 weeks Iv had them. I had 2 cups of decaf coffee today and I normally don’t drink it but now I have palpitations? Maybe thinking it’s that ?? I’m glad your palpitations have eased

Could be - I think I'd be avoiding it for a while. Maybe try another cup in a week or so and see if you get the same reaction?

You haven’t been taking green tea have you? I found a brand I really liked - very mild and not bitter.

I had an awful lot of it throughout the day and ended up with a pounding heart and the shakes. Turned out it was the green tea - the Chinese have one cup aftera meal!

When I was diagnosed I couldn’t take beta blockers as I have asthma so I had to sit it out and wait for the carb t kick in.

I found I didn’t really feel good until I added levothyroxine into the mix and that was after I’d been on 40mcg carb for three months.

Hate to say to but I don’t think there’s a quick fix for your thyroid, it takes quite the a while to sort your thyroid out.
