Ordering Folate test on my own: Serum or RBC?

Unfortunately, my Endo Dr. cannot order Folate, Ferritin, Iron with my Thyroid Panel Lab test so I will have to do it on my own (I'm in U.S. so have to deal with health insurance codes, etc.) Do I ask for a Folate RBC (red blood count) or a Folate Serum test? Thank you all for answering my pesky questions.

bessygo,

I find there is controversy over which is better depending on what you read.

However, my endo requested my GP conduct a RBC folate due to my methylation issues but GP hadn't heard of it and couldn't find it on his list 😳 ... so I ended up with the serum folate anyway.

Others may have a better knowledge.
