Liver and thyroid
Gillybabe48,
Yes. The liver metabolises hormones, filters toxins & cleans the blood. It also converts thyroid hormones, and influences cholesterol & other lipids.
Byproducts that need eliminating from the body are dumped into the gall bladder but low thyroid function can slow this process, making the liver and gall bladder sluggish & congested. This can reduce bile flow used to breakdown fats and cholesterol and other toxins that are broken down in the liver.
This is when conditions such as high cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides and raised liver enzymes are seen. Pale stools may be due to reduced bile salts that are made in the liver and stored in the gall bladder, or not enough fat digesting enzyme lipase.

I agree with radd, but pale stools are usually a sign of gall stones. When a stone blocks the exit to the gall bladder, you can get stomach cramps too. A simple x-ray will show the stones and the number and size.so you can get treatment if you need it. Most will not need treatment.
"Fair, fat, female and forty" used to be the guidelines for gall stones!
As per serenfach , my immediate thought is gallstones. A blood test for GGT is likely to be done, or if the GP is pretty certain then a trip for an ultrasound (I have mine next Monday).
