Blood test results

I have been given blood results that say normal but I am wondering if they are still low. Autoimmune runs in the family and I have symptoms to many different things. My results are:

Serum free T4 level (XaERr) 12.9 pmol/L [9 - 19]

Coded entrySerum TSH level (XaELV) 1.59 miu/L [0.35 - 4.94

Serum ferritin level (XE24r) 12 ng/ml [10 - 204]

Thanks in advance

You are probably getting no help because your tsh is at a good level but something is wrong as your ft4 is much too low. As is your ferritin. Ferritin should be around 80! Raising it could help but like me your tsh is not pushing hard enough to produce T4. Could be central hypo which means your thyroid is not receiving the right messages to make T4. It can even be a blood sugar problem because glucose is required to make TSH? I'm having same problem no doctor is listening!

Do you have a diagnosis of hypothyroidism and prescribed Levothyroxine?

If not then your thyroid results are considered normal, your TSH is where one would expect it to be in a normal healthy person, i.e. usually no more than 2. Your FT4 is 39% through range which may be a little low but none of us know where our normal FT4 lies when we are well because we're never tested for a baseline.

As autoimmune illness runs in the family it would be wise to check thyroid antibodies.

Serum ferritin level (XE24r) 12 ng/ml [10 - 204]

This is absolutely dire and will be causing problems. There is a list of symptoms that low ferritin can cause in this article:

restartmed.com/low-ferritin/

Such a low level can suggest iron deficiency anaemia so you should ask for a full blood count and iron panel. If your GP says you are in range so no need for further investigation then say that you are 1.03% through that range and if your level was 203 you would be 99% through range yet both say you are "normal". Push for further investigation.

Because your ferritin is so low, chances are your other nutrient levels could be too. Ask for the following to be tested:

Vit D

B12

Folate

If your GP can't or wont do all the tests, you can get a full thyroid panel, including antibodies, plus the full vitamin panel, with one of our recommended labs who do fingerprick tests or venous blood draw if preferred at extra cost.

Medichecks Thyroid Check ULTRAVIT medichecks.com/thyroid-func... You can use code THYROIDUK for a 10% discount on any test not on special offer.

Between Friday 26th April and Monday 29th April there is a special offer of 20% discount across the board.

or

Blue Horizon Thyroid Check PLUS ELEVEN bluehorizonmedicals.co.uk/t...

Both tests include the full thyroid and vitamin panel. They are basically the same test but with the following small differences:

For the fingerprick test, Blue Horizon requires 1 x microtainer of blood (0.8ml), Medichecks requires 2 x microtainers (total 1.6ml)

Blue Horizon includes Total T4 (can be useful but not essential). Medichecks doesn't include this test.

B12 - Blue Horizon does Serum B12. Medichecks does Active B12.

Serum B12 shows the total B12 in the blood. Active B12 shows what's available to be taken up by the cells. You can have a reasonable level of Serum B12 but a poor level of Active B12. (Personally, I would go for the Active B12 test.)
