You've answered your question. If you felt better with the increased dose ask to return to it.Going by how 'we feel' is always the best way to judge whether or not our dose is optimum.
Both frees are better with the higher dose.
I know doctors get worried if TSH is below range but it is from the pituitary gland and it doesn't need to pump out more hormones to try to raise the TSH. It is not from the thyroid gland but the pituitary gland and if our body is struggling with too little thyroid hormones, our body tries to compensate.
Why did the endo reduce your Levo? Presumably because the TSH was low. He ought to know, if he is prescribing T3, that this is exactly what T3 does - lowers TSH, even suppresses it. There was nothing wrong with your FT4 and FT3 on 125mcg Levo and if that is where you felt well then you should go back on it.
No. I had to cut the lio right back. I think I took too much too quickly. I had a couple of months when I was just starving the whole time and put on a stone because I couldn’t stop eating!
I’m still on the 125 levo every morning and I was taking 5 lio but I’ve just upped that to 10. I take that with my levo. I feel absolutely fine. Sometimes in the afternoon I feel I could do with a small dose of lio but I haven’t been brave enough to try it yet. I’m terrified that hunger comes back!
I take 100mcgs Levo plus 15mcgs Liothyronine in the mornings but when I did the Medichecks blood test I took 100mcgs Levo and 10mcgs Liothyronine on waking and then 5mcgs Liothyronine only at 4pm.( so that there was a 15 hr gap prior to blood tests.
When I got the results back the Drs comments were that I should reduce both meds.
I’ve written back and said he obviously doesn’t know that when taking any T3 it lowers tsh to below range.
Maybe I just upped the dose too quickly. When I stopped the lio and it wore off the hunger went too.
I’ve been raising it very slowly this time - I’ve done 3 months on 5mcg only and only just upped to 10 this week. So far no hunger so hopefully it’ll work this time.
I definitely had much more energy and felt more awake. It was just the hunger I couldn’t cope with.
My endo is great. He knows my TSH has to be suppressed for me to feel even human!
I was on 100 + 5 for about 3 months. This week I’ve upped it to 100 + 10 all at 6.30 in the morning. Haven’t noticed any difference yet but I always take a while to see any change.
Medichecks said that my TSH was too low and that I should see my GP to reduce my medication. My GP always wants to reduce my medication but the endo is happy with all of my levels. He’s the one I trust - so far the only one who has had any idea what he’s talking about.
