Recently, I've been feeling extreme periods of being over emotional, be it very teary, crying for no reason and generally feeling low.
In particular, these episodes have occurred around my menstrual cycle, so I'm hoping that it is hormonal, though it does seem very extreme.
I've just increased to 100mcg Levothyroxine, through felt the same on 75mcg.
Does anyone else experience heightened bouts of emotion? Is this normal, or a side-effect?
I've only been on levothyroxine for nearly 1 year and am still in the process of establishing which dosage works etc.
I should have lots of things to be happy about but I just seem to be overly sensitive to a lot of things lately, on top of being run-down and exhausted.
Edit:
My results in Jan on 75mcg were 'normal'. Serum TSH 2.69 (0.27-4.20) and serum free T4 21.4 (12.00-22.00).
However in March, they were 'abnormal'. Serum TSH level 5.65 (0.27-4.20) and serum free T4 16.7 (12.00-22.00), hence the uplift in levo.

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Ask GP to test vitamins and thyroid antibodies now
You will need Thyroid levels retested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw). This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's.
Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .
