Thyroid : Been on thyroxine for 10 years changed... - Thyroid UK
Thyroid
In what way was medication changed?
Different brand of Levothyroxine
Or different dose?
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw). This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
If/when also on T3, or NDT make sure to take last dose 8-12 hours prior to test
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
Add most recent results and ranges if you have them
Or come back with new post once you get results from GP or get private testing
I usually go every 12 weeks for bloods and they let me know whether stay as Is or up dose never had a problem b 4 very worrying ! Thanks
Dose of Levothyroxine should not need to be adjusted continually
Sounds like GP dosing only by looking at TSH
This suggests you have Hashimoto's also called autoimmune thyroid disease
Low vitamin levels are extremely common

You haven't been on a course of steroids recently have you? I am currently on Prednisolone for Polymyalgia Rheumatica and this has caused the same problems as you. Swollen tongue, sore throat etc. Just a suggestion, if not good luck with finding out what's causing it because I agree with you it is horrible! Take Care
did you change brands or dose? might be side effects?
Might just b a shot in the dark but it’s the only thing changed around the time this all started
