Iron testing results

Daughter (16yo) has been diagnosed hypothyroid (as part of the investigation of the source of her mental illness symptoms) and is being treated with NDT, currently at 60mg of Armour. In November 2018, ferritin was tested and found to be 38.1 (20-324) and B12 was 820 (200-900) at the same time. She does not supplement iron or any B vitamins.

Finally got full iron panel done yesterday:

iron 118 (39-145)

TIBC 275 (260-445)

UIBC 157 (110-370)

% Sat 43 (20-55)

ferritin 38.4 (20-324)

Does this look like a potential methylation issue to anyone?

I believe quite a number of people can be diagnosed with a mental health condition and I am not medically qualified but most on this forum have found it difficult to either get a proper diagnosis or get medication for something other than thyroid hormones.

Some hints to get the best possible results from blood tests:-

All blood tests for thyroid hormones have to be at the very earliest, fasting (she can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between last dose of NDT (or any other thyroid hormones if prescribed) and wait an hour before eating. This procedure keeps the TSH at its highest as it drops throughout the day which may mean an unnecessary adjustment may be made.

It is important that your daughter has a Full Thyroid Blood Test - if you're in the UK this is rarely taken but there are private labs which will do all of them (following the above hints).

TSH, T4, T3 Feree T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies. B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.

The aim is a TSH of 1 or lower (not somewhere in the range as many doctors seem to believe) and a Free T4 and Free T3 in the upper part of the ranges.
