Dr Adrien Heald, Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology in Cheshire and also an Honorary Research Fellow at Manchester University, is hoping to do a study on the clinical and cost effectiveness of desiccated thyroid extract, levothyroxine plus liothyronine and levothyroxine alone, in hypothyroid patients who continue to experience symptoms whilst on levothyroxine treatment.

He has devised a questionnaire that he would like hypothyroid patients who are on levothyroxine treatment but have remaining symptoms, to complete.

If you would like to participate in this questionnaire, please go to:

thyroiduk.org/tuk/newspage....

You will need to print it off to complete it. Once it is completed, please either scan it in and return it to us at tukadmin@thyroiduk.org or send it by post to us at 32 Darcy Road, St Osyth, Clacton on Sea, Essex CO16 8QF and we will forward them all on to Dr Heald.

PS: I have now made a Word version which will go up tomorrow.

That's good that, at last, someone in the UK is looking into how patients are affected when not recovering on T4.

Isn't it? He seems a really good doctor.

Could someone who was more unwell on levo but found changing to an option relieved their symptoms complete his form?

Hi, that is good news. Thank you. I will be very happy to do the questionnaire.

Sorry for being a bit slow here but would it be ok to mention on the questionaire my health score when on Levothyroxine in the past ? Which has been right at the bottom.

Dr Heald says that if people can remember how they felt, it's fine for them to complete the survey.

Thanks - so there'll be quite a few comments I'd assume :)

p.s. there's a duplication of your response.

I wasn't sure if I had to do it for each comment so that people got a notification. :-)

I'll ask Dr Heald

Hi shaws as I am just in the process of changing medication from Levo to NDT, I am filling this form in and also doing one for my son who has also been affected by Levo. This is very opportune for me as I have just changed today, so am apprehensive as well. Thanks for posting this lynmynott .

It may me! But when I click on the link it just takes me to the news page. I can’t find any survey?

Hi Cat, this survey was done two years ago so is no longer accessible.
