Rhumetologist / Hashimotos Visit

I went to the Rhumetologist on Tuesday she had done a lot of blood work. The only things that came back off was my TSH and was just slightly over range and my CK levels were elevated. I have been having horrible muscle pain. The elevated CK level she said is due to the inflammation in my muscles and that I could no longer exercise I could walk and that was it. I clean for a living so I walk a lot anyway but then I get home and my leg muscles are killing me. She told me that until I'm on medication for my Thyroid this pain will not go away. My last TSH was 3.780 ( 0.358 - 3.740 ) so slightly above. My TSH in November was 2.100, one year earlier it was 1.790 so it's been creeping up. I have my physical apt on Feb 21 with my PCP and I going to ask her to do my FT3 and FT4 My December bloodwork I had low Vitamin D - Low Ferratin so I was prescribed 50,000 units Vitamin D for 10 weeks at 1 per week and I'm now taking Iron ... Besides FT3 and FT4 what other bloods should I ask for. I can't take this pain any more and all my Endo wants too do is give my Phentermine too lose weight. I'm giving up. I'm actually thinking about selling my motorcycle because of this pain..

Sorry you haven’t had a reply yet. If no one comes along with answers today post a new post with a different heading and hopefully someone will see it.

I’d say you want a full thyroid panel plus antibodies, ferritin, folates, vitamin B12 and vitamin D - others here might have more ideas and you seem to have had some of those tested.

Make sure you always get and keep a copy of your blood test results with their ranges.

If it’s any help I find that if I cut out / cut back bread and potatoes, cakes and biscuits - in my case grain based carbs and vegetables that grow underground plus tropical fruits I lose weight.

I’d agree on going easy on exercise there’s no point in trashing your already painful muscles. I know it’s probably boring but when you’re not working I’d rest if I were you.

I wouldn’t get rid of your motorbike just yet though because your rheumatologist has told you you need medication for your thyroid and with a bit of luck once you get that you will start to feel better.

Who is going to do that for you? Have you been referred to an endocrinologist? If you have been told you can’t have it then go back to your rheumatologist and get them to push for thyroid medication for you.

Just hang on to your motorbike - for the moment at least!

I have been seeing and endocrinologist for a yeaar or so. I had some symptoms but it was mai ky to help with weight issues. She put me on Phentermine and I lost 15 pounds. Then the symptoms started coming on strong. Lastime I saw her she sent me for Vit D and TSH in November and I got those test at about 11am. I wanted too wait but she said it didnt make a difference heres more weight loss meds which I havent touched and she looks at me like stop wasting my time. Everything went downhill at Christmas time I got lots of bloods done from my weight loss Dr i had weight loss surgery 10 years ago. Those results Low Ferratin pit on iron, Vit D low 50,000 units 1 time per week for 8 weeks. Elevated Liver but thats gone down. When I saw the rhumy she said my Liver Enzymes would be elevated if I were having a Hashimotos flare. Because they were high when the flare was happening then came back to normal when the flare stopped with in a couple of weeks. Then she told me about the Ck and Elevated TSH. My endo makes me feel like im wasting her time. So when I see my PCP I will have her run everything again.

Gosh you are having a tough time with it all aren’t you. It’s probably not any consolation but if you read the posts on here you will see that a lot of people have a hard time with their endos, don’t know what it is with endos. In my case it was my GP who liked at me like I was a waste of space hypochondriac and told me ‘ you’re needing your holiday’. I was actually I’ll with Graves Disease - once I reached rock bottom it was obvious I was ill and the endos put me back together again.

You could try a low carb, high fat diet like I do, when you eat low fat foods they tend to have lots of sugar in them so you’re hungry aga8n soon after you’ve eaten. Basically I don’t eat masses if fat but I’m not scared to eat fat and I eat carbs but like I said I get them from above ground growing vegetables. I know from testing my blood sugar before and after I eat that grains of any sort spike my blood sugar and are then stored as fat so I tend not to eat grain based foods.

Good luck with it all, it can be a bit of a struggle dealing with endos and to a lesser extent rheumatologists - I see a rheumatologist at the moment and I saw an endo - well because I attended a teaching hospital I saw a different one every appointment when I was ill with my thyroid.

Are you in the U.K. or the US?

I know, this group is amazing. I don’t know how I would have survived without it. It was just when you said ‘run everything again’ that I wondered if you were over there.

It's the cause to all your problems... Your pains will go away overnight if you get this managed... Get yourself glutathione for your pain it's the mother of all antioxides which your body produces but because your not managing your mthfr it's not producing and your body can't get rid of all the toxins in your body thus creating inflammation and pains
