she, asked me to get rezults fron gp and post as im still having lots of probs im on 50mg tbyroxine
I expect she'll be along later.
But, 50 mcg is just a starter dose, and your FT4 is only mid-range - most people need it higher than that - so not surprising you're still having problems.
been on that since 2002 a
every test comes back "normal "
I have a lot of hair loss... I don't sweat anymore underarm wise . can't shiftcweight which is hard anyway with underactive .still tired . grumpy depressed so been put on cetelapram
'Normal', in doctor speak, just means 'in-range'. But, just being 'in-range' isn't good enough. It's not the same as optimal. It's where your result falls in the range that counts. Plus, if you still have hypo symptoms, it can't possibly be optimal, can it.
Plus, you don't know what your FT3 is. That is the most important number. And, if you aren't a very good converter of T4 to T3, that will be low. And, it's low T3 that causes symptoms.
So, their so-called 'normal' results don't really mean much at all. What it means is that your doctor knows nothing about thyroid.
it dont matter what i tell them i gef same, answer ..... normal...
I know, they can be really pig-headed! They think they know it all, even when they don't. Is there no possibility that you can change your doctor? Or, have you ever thought of buying your own levo and giving yourself an increase in dose? Although, to be honest, it would be a good idea to give yourself thorough testing first:
TSH
FT4
FT3
TPO antibodies
Tg antibodies
vit D
vit B12
folate
ferritin
with just the TSH and FT4, you don't even know half the story!
the other doctors, were i live r just as bad. and my original doctor before I moved to this one was bad too. wondering about private testing now ?
You can find details of private testing here:
thyroiduk.org/tuk/testing/p...
And, tomorrow being Thursday, Blue Horizon will be announcing it's Thursday special reductions. So, watch this space!
(Well, when I say 'this space', I mean the news feed. )
😁subject t testing. and it proves that I need more or something diffrent .do i get that from my doc or privately??
From the sound of your doctor, I doubt you'll get much from him! He might even object to the fact that you've done private tests. So, I would say, privately. But, anyone can buy iron or B12/folate or vit D. So, that shouldn't be a problem.
We already know you need more levo!
As greygoose has said, you need FULL THYROID and Vitamin testing
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised or if under medicated
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Do not take Levothyroxine dose in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take immediately after blood draw. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins
thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
Come back with new post once you get full results and ranges and members can advise on next steps
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's.
Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .

NICE guidelines saying how to initiate and increase. Note that most patients eventually need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg Levothyroxine
Wait until tomorrow before ordering a blood test, to see if Medichecks have an offer on
hope they do. just looked at prices lol
