I'm not sure if I'm correct but it looks my recent results indicate iron deficiency again (lab tech put borderline next to iron status).
Here are results:
* Full blood count *
Total white blood count 4.4 10*9/L [4.2 - 11.2]
Red blood cell count 4.94 10*12/L [3.73 - 4.96]
Haemoglobin concentration 138 g/L [114.0 - 150.0]
Haematocrit 0.421 L/L [0.35 - 0.45]
Mean cell volume 85.3 fL [83.5 - 99.5]
Mean cell haemoglobin level 28.0 pg [27.5 - 33.1]
Mean cell haemoglobin concentration 328 g/L [315.0 - 350.0]
Red blood cell distribution width 11.3 % [10.0 - 16.0]
Platelet count - observation 256 10*9/L [135.0 - 400.0]
Mean platelet volume 7.8 fL [7.4 - 11.5]
Nucleated red blood cell count 0.0 10*9/L [0.0 - 0.1]
Neutrophil count 2.0 10*9/L [2.0 - 7.1]
Lymphocyte count 1.7 10*9/L [1.1 - 3.6]
Monocyte count - observation 0.5 10*9/L [0.3 - 0.9]
Eosinophil count - observation 0.2 10*9/L [0.0 - 0.5]
Basophil count 0.0 10*9/L [0.0 - 0.2]
* Iron Status *
Serum iron level 9 umol/L [9.0 - 30.0]
Serum transferrin level 3.0 g/L [1.7 - 3.4]
Transferrin saturation index 12 % [16.0 - 55.0]
Below low reference limit
* Serum ferritin *
Serum ferritin level 60 ug/L [10.0 - 120.0]
Overall results are a little confusing. Ferritin is lower than it was but not as low when I was told I have iron deficiency anaemia. Seen haematologist but was very quickly discharged after levels significantly improved. I've been only eating liver and liver pates after my iron tablets finished.
I haven't spoken to the GP as I'm seeing one next week. Am I right in my thinking?
