Confused by my results after dose reductions.

Hi. I need help with making sense of my recent results, please and ideas on what to do next.

I was on 150mcg Levo and added t3 in Jan 18 and over the months I got to c.20mcg (3/4 tablet). I first tested with t3 at end of July:

TSH 0.005 (0.27-4.20)

Ft4 19.50 (12-22)

Ft3 8.43 (3.1-6.8)

To bring the ft3 down I then reduced my levo to 137.5mcg and tested at end of September:

TSH 0.006 (0.27-4.20)

Ft4 20.6 (12-22)

Ft3 7.94 (3.1-6.8)

I then reduced my levo to 115mcg and tested first week of January:

TSH 0.006 (0.27-4.20)

Ft4 17.90 (12-22)

Ft3 8.04 (3.1-6.8)

* all tests about 7.30am, over 24hrs after levo and about 11hrs after t3. Fasted.

I can see that my ft4 has come down slightly after increasing previously but my ft3 is stubbornly still over range. Am I taking too much t3? Is it possible that I only need a tiny bit or that my conversion has improved since adding t3? What’s the best way to test this?

What should if I do to bring my ft3 down and increase tsh, please? Aside from wanting to get ft4 and ft3 into the right places in their ranges I also received a letter from the surgery to do an annual blood checkup this week so would like to get to GP-acceptable levels of ft3 and tsh pretty quickly before they stop my prescriptions.

Thank you for your help!

To bring your FT3 down you're going to need to reduce your dose of T3. It doesn't look as though reducing your Levo is having much effect on your FT3 level.

Presumably, you added T3 to your levo because you didn't convert very well. In which case, how is reducing your levo supposed to reduce your FT3? It might slightly, but hardly enough.

As to your TSH, you would probably have to stop your FT3 to get that to rise. Are you afraid of what your doctor will say about that TSH? Or do you think that having a very low TSH is some sort of health problem? In any case, it really won't rise very quickly. Even if you stopped your T3 completely today, I doubt it would rise in time for your blood test.

Not what you're looking for?
