Hello lovely guys im usually writing a post about myself but for today it's to do with my lovely 79 years old mummy🌸🌹, gp daid she needs vitamin D supplements as she is low, i asked gp if mum could get this on prescription but no surprise really they do not do it on the nhs😕 she is after a good quality one but nothing too expensive.
Mum would prefer to take a liquid if possible, any good ones you can recommend? Big thanks as always⭐🌟

What was her result? The amount of D3 she needs to take depends on what her current level is.
Then of course there are the important cofactors - Vit K2-MK7 and magnesium.
Is she on any blood thinning medication?
There are some sprays and drops that combine D3 and K2 but you need to be careful that the amount of K2 is right.
Lol i should have known better that i will need the levels...i will have a look as mum as kept the copy i got her...i will look on monday when i see her as if i phone then she will get in a tizz trying to look for vit d result😊
Again gp gives little info as usual!! Said nothing about dosage or nothing...does not surprise me, so its not straight forward then like popping a pill in your mouth and off you go!! Lol😊 SS do you mind if i pm you on monday? Xxxx

Amount she needs depends on how low her results were. So you need to get copies of results
You will need to retest in 2-3 months to see if she's taking enough and not too much
Also important to test vitamin B12 and folate
These are often too low if vitamin D is low

Aaw thanks SD, yes i have copies at mums house so i will have a look, mum has been under investigation since july as her vit b12 is way way over range (could indicate underlying medical condition) gp ran extra blood tests too , fbc, folate and iron was all good i checked result of them, kidney, liver,blood cancer etc-all clear ...good news, she has to get bloods done again march for everything again. Only probs were vit d lowered and calcium slightly elevated. Thankyou so much.xx
I use drops D3-K2 from NutriAdvanced or Thorne Vitamin D if I need something stronger x

Yes i have said that to gp the other day and he did say that i am right but wants to test again in march to see if calcium has risen again. yes could be as mum has a slightly elevated calcium levels which were found through blood test. Xx
Heh - have not been on your posts for some weeks - but hope your mum is
improving with her vitamin D levels. As she does not go out in the sun much, it is probably D3 she needs. Vitamin D2 can be found through plant sources, such as green vegetables, and from animal sources, including milk, so unless your mum is
deficient in a normal diet, it would seem more like;y it is d3 the sunshine vitamin
which is deficient. You can get drops d3 for kids from superdrug.com and increase the drops to an adult dose. I get my d3 small tablets from chemist and think it may help skin and metabolism. If your mum has too high calcium, it may be from too much cheese and dairy. Have found the calcification of plaque on teeth is improved from cutting down dairy. If your mum has problems with bone and osteoporosis, it can be to do with the electrolyte balance of too little potassium. Some drugs and a high salt diet can affect the sodium potassium balance, which can encourage osteoporosis. G.
