It's Vit K2-MK7. It's fat soluble like D3 so you could look for a softgel which contains olive oil which helps absorption (I use bigvits.co.uk/product.php?p... ) and could take that with just a full fat yogurt or similar, if you get one without olive oil then you need to take it with the fatties meal of the day.
Do you have a Vitamin D deficiency?
Will do. Thanks.
You could ask your doctor for the blood test to check Vitamin D level but it's probable, that if you've been on Calcichew for a while now, you won't be deficient.
Is there any benefit to the intravenous blood test or is the fingerprick blood test just as good? My gp blood test wasn't sufficient so need to go private. Thks for help.
If you can get enough blood and make sure to send the package on time then the home tests seem to be fine, but you can find that you don't get enough blood and just end up with a sore bruised finger. With Medichecks, if you can't do the home kit, you'll then be given the option to pay the £25 to go to a clinic to have blood drawn.
Re vitamin D deficiency if you're in the UK you most likely are deficient to some degree, and the darker your skin is the more likely you have a deficiency. My NHS GP and PhD friend have both said as much. My GP actually said for that reason they tend not to bother testing unless there are symptoms of severe deficiency so they usually just tell patients to try supplements
I'm not sure what you mean by your GP blood test not being sufficient. Unless you mean GP refused to test Vit D. They refuse here if you're already on Calcichew for Osteopenia. I don't know about private tests but Thyroid UK recommend, so those should be OK. Do you need a test if on prescription for Osteopenia? Unlikely to overdose on the amount of VitD that's in prescribed Calcichew? ?
I would ask for details (actual result and range ) of most recent Calcium test. That's supposed to be monitored by GP if you're on Calcichew (annually at least).
Sorry I wasn't clear. I had gp blood test but it did not include Vitamin D, magnesium, Vit K2. Yes on D3 calcichew only for years. Also on HRT Tibolene. My serum calcium result was 2.32 mmol/L (2.20 - 2.60). Also
Serum adjusted calcium conc
2.32mmol/L (2.20 - 2.60).
Serum vit B12 266 ng/L (170 - 730)
Serum ferritin 50 ug/L (10 - 290
Serum folate 8.7 ug/L (3 - 19)
Serum TSH level 3.47 miu/L
(0.3 - 5.0)
My query is because of osteopaena and mild cognitive impairment. Wld like to supplement but Wld need blood test for vit D, Magnes, vit
K2. Thanks Mary.
Well your calcium level seems ok: but what dose Levothyroxine are you on because your TSH is too high for someone with Hypothyroidism. It may fall within the lab "normal" range, but you are not a Euthyroid (ie normal Thyroid ) patient.
The target therapeutic level for someone with Hypothyroidism is much lower . My Endocrinologist said mine is 2 but I've learned from this forum that even lower at one or less (ie closer to the bottom of the normal range) is ideal.
Could you contact your Endocrinologist or GP about a dose increase?
Do you have your most recent FT3, FT4, T3 or T4 results ?
No, I have never been diagnosed with any thyroid issues, so don't take Levo at all. But I recognised that i needed to check my vit d cos I don't have any sun at all due to skin issues and regularly having moles cut out. The gp didn't include vit d so meantto have private blood test to look at vit d, mag, vit k2. Also want to supplement b12 for brain and nerve function.
Thks for info on calcium level. That's good.
