As I am now the proud owner of a prescription for Liothyronine I need to ask which manufacturer should I avoid? I can only take mercury pharma or wockhardt levo so I’m not sure if I need to stick to those makes.

Mercury Pharma or Morningside Healthcare are safest bet

Morningside is blister packed. Mercury Pharma are only loose in a pot.

They aren't interchangeable.

Just Like Levothyroxine. Different brands are not identical.

Stick on same brand at each prescription

As I split my dose, I take Mercury Pharma. Teva eg, has to be dissolved in water to split and therefore some of the medication is wasted. Also, not easy to do in the middle of the night when I take some of mine!

Hate to tell you this, but so does Mercury Pharma and Morningside! Here is the Mercury Pharma PIL info:

• If you have been prescribed a dose lower than 20 micrograms, you should allow a tablet to dissolve/disperse in 20 mL of water for 10 minutes, in a small measuring cup.

• You should gently swirl the solution occasionally to aid the dissolution/dispersion

So if you've been fine splitting tablets in the normal way, it would seem to indicate what all we knew anyway, that water dissolving isn't necessary, so carry on with how you do it.

This has been discussed on the forum quite a bit. It seems there is no real evidence dissolving actually is better than splitting, though as MaisieGray says, it's what they all officially tell you to do :(

I think they also advise you to throw away all of the excess tablet, too, so they might just like how we have to buy more tablets!

Yes they do advise throwing it away and yet we mustn’t throw/flush medication into the water system!! I actually put in a complaint about that instruction, but never had a reply.

I think Helvella had a letter back, they gave very evasive answers and didn't address any of the contradictions. It's just one of those ridiculous instructions that hasn't been thought through :(
