Yes doctors have a habit of making thyroid patients feel like hypochondriacs. Hypochondriacs have lots of symptoms but so do undertreated thyroid patients!
You need your free T3 and free T4 tested. You may need to take T3. Or perhaps an increase in T4. Good luck
Hi there I had a partial thyroidectomy this year in August too. I am not on any medication and feel awful. My tsh has gone up and t4 and t3 have dropped but since doctors think I am in range I need no treatment. What are your symptoms? I have severe brain fog, feel dizzy and completely exhausted. I am seeing a doctors who will hopefully prescribe some sort of medication. Can’t live like this! Please share your symptoms as I thought may be I am the only one struggling!
Hi ya, my symptoms consist too of brain fog, cold intolerance, weight gain despite exercising 4 times a week, loss of labido, hip and knee pain, headaches, fatigue,.
It’s horrendous I started to cry when with the doctor yesterday as I know somethings not right and he asked Ito wanted to go to counselling as it may be my fast lifestyle as I seemed stressed!! Stated he will see me in a month and go from there but he stated I might need a mild antidepressant because sometimes they help people with pain and lift mood😳😳😳
After being put on Synthyroid and Cytomel I was and emotional mess always felt wrong even though lab test said I was correct and endo said I needed to see a psychologist I just unhappy with my health "Thank you captain obvious" of course I'm unhappy. Get a new Endo.
Sorry you hear of your story, I’m guessing I have to wait before hitting rock bottom before they do anything as suggested I’m in normal ranges. I’m 36 with 2 children and a full time job and feel like an 86 year old!! Glad to hear you improved once medicated.
I have struggled alot over the past 2 yrs living without a thyroid and dealing with a invisible disease that only seems to get any attention from Doctors when my lab numbers go out of range which has NEVER happened it could be because I'm consistent with my medication schedule or the lab reference ranges are just wrong for people WITHOUT a thyroid, I will never know. Do yourself a favor it's your body and NO lab test or Doctor can tell you how you feel only you know this .....get a new Doctor don't wait until things get worse.
Hi again did you find out what your free t3 and t4 were? Also when did you have your partial thyroidectomy o see it was in October this year well I had mine in August this year. It’s been almost 4 months now. My tsh is slowly beginning to go down it went up to 1.7 and now is coming down to 1.1. I am finally hoping the other half is slowly taking over. I still feel unwell but don’t want to be on replacement therapy as it has its own terrible side affects.
Hi ya, doctor didn’t test t3 or t4. Haven’t been back to him as was abit annoyed he put my weight gain as me being lazy.. anyone who knows me knows I can’t sit still for long enough. I am continuing to write a diary and will await to see consultant in January. Think gps need more training in endocrine system
Hi again and thanks! I don’t know what has happened with me though as I have developed severe anxiety after the surgery along with the brain fog it is scary! I think the body part that has been affected the most is my brain. Although my numbers look closer to what they were before surgery I do not know what’s causing these issues. I am just so lost now, did you experience anything of the sort- hope it gets better as I am at my wits end with all of this ☹️ By the way I am 34 with two young kids who are suffering because of all of this!
I cannot see any vitamin D result here. Low vitamin D can cause many of your symptoms even if within the lab range. Also, increasing the amount of calcium rich foods may help too.
I also had a hemithyroid-isthumectomy and suffered for 7/8 years. In the end I got my own vitamin D test and supplemented. I stick to one particular levothyroxine that suits me as some have given me terrible problems.
Some people are very sensitive to slightest increase/decrease in levo dose. 12.5mcg can make a therapeutic difference which doctors seem to have no clue about. One doctor told me it's a very tolerant drug - which it may be in the fact that it has a long half life but it acts like a low index drug so small changes can make a big difference although it takes around 6 weeks for a change in dose to be evident in blood tests.
Try to be consistent with medication and always leave at least an hour until eating or drinking anything or take it in the night on an empty stomach.
Edited: Ask doctor to test vit D3, folate, ferritin and B12.
