Hello, I have had T3 prescribed for many years. Now the NHS has decided they are not going to prescribe it any longer. Does anyone knows of any private doctors that would prescribe it, please? Many thanks

Were you originally diagnosed as having clinical need for T3 by an NHS endocrinologist?
If not, you will need referral to one. Need to pick right one
Thyroid Uk has list of recommended thyroid specialists, some are NHS
Roughly where in UK are you?
Which CCG ?
You may need to fight hard to overturn this decision.
Hello, thank you for your reply. No, I was diagnosed by the late Dr Skinner. It would be Stockport CCG.
Then you will almost certainly need to be reassessed by an NHS endocrinologist if you wish to continue on NHS T3
Getting DIO2 gene test privately may help your case if you test positive

Hi Rosuca
I’m afraid that if you manage to procure a prescription from a private doctor it will cost you a fortune to fulfil it in the uk. There is only one supplier of T3 and it has the NHS over a barrel and charges around £600 for the tablets that we buy online for £15. On private prescription, you would also have to pay this. You could then find an online pharmacy abroad but not sure how that works. I spent around £500 on a private doctor before I finally got a prescription that I didn’t need and he asked me for my online source so that he could pass it to his patients. So you don’t need it and welcome to the self-treating T3 club!
Julie-W It is not the case that there is only one supplier of T3. If you check out the link, you will see details of all the makes currently included in the BNF. Prices have recently been coming down incrementally month on month and 28 x 20mcg tablets will currently cost in the region of £236-£258. However some pharmacists are willing/able to source from Germany, and if dispensing against a private prescription may charge substantially less than those figures - in other forum it's been reported that people are paying c£60 for Thybon Henning, but not every pharmacist will/can source outside existing arrangements. Hence having a private prescription for that make dispensed in Germany at a cost of c30 Euros for 100 tablets. bnf.nice.org.uk/medicinal-f...
That’s really interesting, thank you and good to know. I have been out of the NHS Thyroid game for over a decade and have always bought my own T3 online. I use the Germany website from time to time but £60 for 100 tablets is way too much for me. I currently pay between £12-25 per 100 tablets and as I use 3.5 tabs a day of 25mcgs, it would be very expensive for me
