Hi can any one explain to me what is T3 I'm on thyroxine for an under active thyroid is T3 better why are doctors so reluctant to prescribe it
What is T3 : Hi can any one explain to me what is... - Thyroid UK
What is T3
Go to the main website of Thyroid UK - everything there you need to know about Thyroid....
Thank you xx
Do you have any results with ranges ? If your FT4 is high in range and the FT3 is low then adding T3 could be a benefit. What are your levels of iron - Ferritin - Folate - B12 - VitD ? All need to be good for your thyroid pills to work effectively and for you to feel well. T3 is not an instant cure
A contributory factor is cost 28 tablets liothyronine (t3) cost approx £130 whilst 28 tablets levothyroxine (t4) 60p. The clinical commissioning groups (CCG's ) hold the purse strings and can deny GP's the choice to prescribe it. Some GP's will if recommended by a hospital consultant, but many endocrinologists are diabetes specialists not thyroid specialists, or to be frank many consultants do not want to put their heads above the parapet against the establishment view: therefore many people end up in poor health and end up going it alone without medical support. Sorry for the tirade, have just started self treating with combo t3 and t4.
early days still will have private bloods at the end of January.
Best wishes
Is that the up to date price for T3 ? Thought it was nearer 200 GBP's
This from dec 2015 of the British national Formulary

They keep putting my dose up I'm on 125mg at the moment I was on 150mg but they said it was to high I really don't think they know what they are doing I have Deppresion and don't sleep the doctor just seems to ignore this and says sort your head out
I'd sort your Doctor out and fast... RUN x
I work in an NHS hospital , the head pharmacist gave me that price on 2nd of December as I enquirer the cost for a private prescription, so I think it is reasonably current.
Yes you are right - Galathea just confirmed Am sure someone mentioned a higher price recently which took my breath away. Especially as I live in Greece where they are accessible OTC and very cheap !
I bought mine from a private hospital to do a trial, I paid £100 for the first tub of 28 tablets. I was intending to get more, but was told the next batch were double the price. So maybe that was me?
I intend sourcing some from abroad, although I am waiting for an official refusal to prescribe from my GP. The endo has written again asking the GP to prescribe it for me. All I've had is another blood test form so far.
Best wishes MariLiz
