Would it be ok to increase NDT after 1 week

Hi,

I recently started taking NatureThroid. The doctor advised half a grain for 2 weeks then to increase by half a grain every 2 weeks, having blood tested after 6 weeks. He said if I had any side effects, such as palpitations to drop back to previous dose. I'm wondering if it would be ok to increase to one grain after one week.

For info, though diagnosed as hypo I have very few symptoms and don't feel ill so I won't know how much is good for me till I have my bloods tested again. My TSH is increasing (I know that's not the only thing to keep an eye on but as I said I don't feel ill).

TIA

If you've been advised to increase every 2 weeks, and don't feel ill, why are you wanting to rush it? The T4 element in NDT is going to take 6 weeks to become fully effective anyway, so I'd just go along with what your doctor has advised. It's too easy to miss your sweet spot so no point in rushing.

I was told to stick to that unless I felt I needed to as symptoms returning. So twice I did a couple of 12 days rather than 14.

I also missed my sweet spot! So a word of warning! 8 wastold to increase to 2 grains then drop down to quarters. I got up to 3 grains and although feeling good I wasn't as good as I was expecting. ( NHS put me of NDT over thirty years ago so had some experience for 3 years till a prolonged strike meant it was no longer available) At this point I had an Endo appointment as I thought the time right to get bloods done and get professional feedback. I was over medicated and doctor told me to drop down to 1.75 which I thought was too much but been on that ever since. but I had missed my sweet spot as I'd gone from 1.5 to 2 grains the 2.25 etc so if you tgink you are getting nowhere then do bloods or drop back and hold for a bit.

I thought being slightly over felt very similar to being slightly under. So now if ever in a quandary but know something is wrong I always drop back first then start to increase again if necessary as if you just think you need more that it's so easy to keep doing that as I did and then going so far over!

Thanks. I'll only be up to 1.5 grains if I have my bloods tested in 6 weeks. That's still quite a low dose I think so am hoping I don't experience any side effects by then. I can only go my test results at the moment as, luckily, I have very few symptoms and don't feel ill. I was only diagnosed after a routine health check (and having blood tests for 12 months) - had been to docs with something unrelated, I was 70 at the time so presumably doc was being pro-active.
