Hi. Have only been on NDT for around 10 days.was on 1/2 grain a day (split dose) and my temperature came up to an average of 37.3° quite quickly and stayed there.but I was achey and tired and felt hypo in spite of my temperature so I increased by 1/4 of a grain yesterday.now my basal temperature has plummeted to 35° and I'm baffled.
Should I be worried? Is this normal?

It sounds like you may be undermedicated. How much Levothyroxine were you taking prior to NDT and can you post recent thyroid results and ranges to help members advise?

Hey.i don't have any bloodwork to hand. I was on 100mcg and my TSH was around 2.my doctor refused to test t4 or free t3 and said "the tsh is enough of an indicator that the levo is working " but I felt awful. Gained 3 stone on levo.was underweight to start with though ,so only went slightly overweight. Still at my heaviest. ..
Had to come home and sleep after school runs and then wake up,pick the kids up and try not to fall asleep again. ...
Always felt mentally and physically exhausted.i suspected that I was accumulating rt3 so I worked on optimising my iron, vit D,B12 etc, stopped the levo for 3 weeks and withdrew from all painkillers to allow my poor knackered adrenals to pick up. I felt great off levo
But i was starting to feel slightly hypo again when I started the NDT...and just got worse many ways.am back to lying down constantly, aches etc....
I want to raise by 1/ 4 of a grain tomorrow because I'm feeling SO hypo but worried it's too fast because I only held the 3/4 dose two days.
Am thinking that since I'm still below the standard start dose of 1 grain that it shouldn't be too much of an issue as long as I stay at a grain for 2 weeks or more.or is this still a bad idea? Can't cope like this
Lady_Lee, most of the Levothyroxine will have been out of your system by the end of three weeks. 1 grain NDT is bioactively equivalent to 75-100mcg Levothyroxine so 1/2 grain isn't enough and that's why you are hypo.
NDT can be increased in 1/2 grain increments every two weeks so I don't see a problem increasing to 1 grain tomorrow. If you increase dose further, hold at 2 grains for 6 weeks and have a FT3 test before increasing further. Private thyroid tests can be ordered from Blue Horizon and Genova via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...
