Hello everyone I am new hear and was wondering if I could get some help. I had a thyroidectomy in 2012 and it has been a rollercoaster since. Recently I was on 175mcg of Synthroid and not feeling well. In the past two years I’ve gain 50 more pounds! My PCP added Cytomel 9 days ago due to the weight gain, poor mood, and pain in muscles especially legs. Since the Cytomel was added I have horrible pain in my legs and back. Barely able to walk! Anyone experience this with T3 added? Should I ditch the synthetics and just try Armour Thyroid at this point?
Thank you in advance

My Sympathy to You BaaahstonTPaaahty . It's very possible that the Dr gave you T-3 when you where your FT-4's where high . Did you get lab work done prior to your Dr giving you T-3 ? Your Dr should have checked your FT-4 . I know that many can not dose with any T-3/NDT if their FT-4 is high . If your FT-4 is high you will have to lower slowly your T-4 dose by 25mcg at a time and run labs in six weeks time . T-4 is long acting and T-3 is very powerful and works almost immediately . The Dr should start you on low dose T-3 too . My Endo started me with 5mcg T-3 split 2x . 2.5 AM and 2.5 mid afternoon . You try it for a week or two and see how it feels . If your lab values are low and you feel you need more energy increase slowly again by adding another 2.5mcg T-3 when you feel you need it most .
I must caution you that it's stressful on our adrenals . So you might want to support your adrenals with Vitamin "C" , B-Complex , and for electrolytes some Celtic Sea Salt . Having had TT and being dosed with T-4 only takes a toll on the adrenals . You might want to test your Adrenal/Cortisol /DHEA levels too . It's done via saliva . DHEA is tested via serum .
