Cytomel (t3) rash on neck?

Hi everyone,

Wondering if any of you ever get a rash on your neck - lookalike posing ivy. I honestly don't know if it's the cytomel (t3), or the fact occasional I eat a whole bag of crispy seaweed (iodine) and I didn't know til just today that could have a negative impact. The rash has come and gone for about a year, maybe once every month or two, and never related to dose changes. It's more painful that itchy (like a burn) and just on one side.

Sophieanson,

If you were allergic to the Cytomel I doubt the rash would come and go spontaneously. Why not leave off the crispy seaweed until the rash subsides and then eat it again and note whether the rash returns?

That sounds like a good plan!!

I know I should. I've been eating it because my iodine levels are undetectable. I'm eating pounds of seaweed and yet still... undetectable. So frustrating --going to stop.

Sophieanson,

What tests have you had to determine iodine levels are undetectable? You should be gettting the required amount of iodine from Cytomel and diet.

Blood test. Keeps coming back as 'untraceable'. I didn't know cytomel has iodine!

Thyroid hormones are made of hydrogen, carbon, oxygen, iodine, nitrogen. It isn't that Cytomel has iodine as a separate ingredient.

See, for example, Wiki:

Sophieanson,

If it comes back as untraceable your physician should prescribe or recommend iodine drops or tablets.

Clutter you seem well informed. I recently added 25mg synthroid because my t4 was low. I your experience on these boards is it ok to have low t4 if on a t3 only treatment?. I felt fine without and wonder if the rash is associated with that.

Sophieanson,

FT4 will always be low when taking T3 only. Stop taking Synthroid and see whether the rash clears up. Then reintroduce Synthroid and see whether rash reappears.

Hi! Did you find a root cause for your rash? I’ve recently had a rash appear the same down my left side of neck and struggling to figure it out! Had allergy testing done which has come back clear and can’t figure why only one side

hello there, did you figure out the reason of the rash in the neck?

hi sorry this was so long ago. I’m honestly not sure. However I was grossly overmedicated at the time and didn’t realise it until I switched doctors. I don’t know if that was part of the issue, I imagine so. I was taking way too much t3 (up to 300 at one point! Now I take 5!) since coming off it I’ve managed to gain 17 lbs of muscle and lose 18 lbs fat, changing my body comp from 33% fat to 17% (at the same 118 lb weight). So the cytomel (t3) was horribly catabolic for me- and I wonder if that rash was my body trying to send me a message. I haven’t had the rash in 7 years but used to have it regularly.

So, check your levels, sorry I can’t be more helpful. I now believe t3 only protocols are NOT good (not for me anyway)

Thanks for replying - however you have replied to yourself - so I'll call out to Quiqui so they get an alert.

unbelievable!

I always thought it was the thyroid medication in my case as well , that’s why I asked?

I have an appointment with my doctor on April 12th and can’t change it because is completely booked. The same for any other Endo. Here in the states there is a doctor crisis .

Anyway, by any chance , besides the rashes , did you have any dizziness or else ? I do have it on and off.

Thank you so much for your reply and I hope to hear from you soon.
