Do any women take she's for menopause symptoms? I'm trying to find out if it's safe to take if you have COPD and epilepsy. Thanks

I have DHEA on prescription as I can't take testosterone directly. I have asthma (with lung damage) but not epilepsy. My asthma is much better now than it's been for the past 60 years. Endo should be able to advise. DHEA is illegal in the UK without a prescription.

Hello Angel of North

Did you get any side effects from DHEA & what dose are you on? I’ve heard it can cause hair growth - I’m about to start taking it.

Once on it do you take it for life like thyroxine ?

Thanks

Polly

No side effects apart from feeling better. Don't know how long I'll need to take it for, but probably not for life - 11 years so far - you'll need to ask the doctor who is prescribing it.

2 x 6.25mg a day

I’ve been prescribed 2 x 10mg per day. Hope it’s not too much!

You need what you need. Your bloods won't have been the same as mine. I find a small amount makes a lot of difference. One time they reduced mine to 2 x 5mg and I felt dreadful within a few days, even though the difference was tiny. Put it back up; fine again.

Why DHEA? Have you tested?

I think DHEA is a bit of an iffy thing to DIY, it would be best to be guided by a medical practioner on this one.

Have you looked at bioidentical HRT?

I am post menopause (by a long way) and I use bioidentical progesterone cream, I think I've seen other people say they have used this successfully for menopause symptoms. I'm not suggesting that is your answer but it's worth looking into.

Hello SeasideSusie

Is bio identical hormone the same as body identifical?

Also can you get the progesterone cream from GP or is it private in UK?

Thanks so much

Polly

Polly

I don't know anything about body identical, I expect Google will throw up some information.

Again, I don't know if progesterone cream is available from GP, mine was recommended by a private practioner and where to source it.

Thanks. Are you in UK?

Also do you need oestrogen as well as progesterone ? The HRT patches I was on previously contained both.

Thanks v much

Yes I'm in the UK.

I don't supplement with oestrogen. I have a very long history of fibrocystic breasts so it's not a good idea for me.

I've never been on HRT either, when I was going through the menopause my doctor never suggested testing anything, but I don't think I would have wanted HRT anyway, and my symptoms were never severe, I was lucky.

Thanks. I used to be on progesterone mini pill & I felt v good on it so I think it might be good for me. How much is it?

Here is a link to the cream I use

elan-organics.com/product-c...

It doesn't currently attract VAT and Royal Mail's collection fee as it is shipped from Sweden.

Thanks. So price in dollars? Did you initially get it prescribed by a doctor or did you diy?

The price is given if you click on the product. It's $37 for the jar, $34 dollars for the tube. It was not prescribed, it is a non-prescription cream from overseas, it was recommended to me by a private practioner.
