Fostair and Levothyroxine Interactions?

Been prescribed levothyroxine 50mcg daily for hypothyroidism. Noticed that the leaflet for Fostair and Levothyroxine both show a possible warning for taking both of them together.

The fostair leaflet says this...

Medicines for treating Parkinsons disease (L-dopa), to treat an underactive thyroid gland (L-thyroxine), medicines containing oxytocin and alcohol - Can lower your hearts tolerance to beta-2 agonists, such as formoterol.

Lower your hearts tolerance, any idea what it means by that? I take the Fostair 200/6 4 times daily.

I don't use Fostair but I do use Formoterol and have been for a couple of years. The Patient Information Leaflet for that does mention if you have heart problems, and if you take thyroid medication (mentions Levo) then speak to your doctor. Well I tick them box for both of those, and my doctor knows, but nothing has been said. I suppose it's one of those things that you have to weigh up. I can't do without my inhalers so what's the alternative.

I wouldn't like to guess at the interpretation of "Lower your hearts tolerance". Maybe you should discuss this with your doctor

Thank you, very interesting. Its reassuring that you have been taking Formoterol and thyroid medication for a couple of years without adverse reactions. I will ask a GP on HealthcareMagic this afternoon and report back the results here.

I taken my first pill of Levothyroxine at about 8pm last night. At around 11pm I taken 2 inhalations of Fostair then got in bed and checked my heart rate with oximeter. Noticed it was acting a little strange, fluctuating constantly between 40bpm and 80bpm. Which is definitely a little unusual for me as I suffer from mild tachycardia due to the inhalers. Usually after Fostair use my heart rate stays at about 90bpm resting. But hey it could just be my body adjusting to the thyroid hormone and everything! :)

Just a quick question, does it matter what time I take the Levothyroxine? I know to always make sure its at least 3 hours after last meal and not to eat or drink anything but water for 1 hour after. But just curious if the actual time matters.

You guys on here really have been great with all my questions! As I never seen my GP regarding this I had so many questions at the begining haha :)

You can take your Levo at whatever time suits you. Some people take it at bedtime, sosme when they wake, I take mine in the early hours of the morning to keep it well away from my supplements and meds.
