Hi , I be had a TSH result of 5.2, six weeks ago and 4.3 recently. My Gp is just monitoring my levels but not offered any treatment.
I am thinking of doing a private test as suggested on here, but wondering what the census is on taking supplements such as kelp and magnesium. Would these interfere with the results? If I can’t get my gp to offer levo, then would any of these supplements help?
It's not a good idea to take kelp, or any other form of iodine. Before considering it, test for iodine deficiency, and if found to be deficiency then iodine should be supplemented under the supervision of an experienced practioner. Iodine used to be used to treat hyperthyroidism, so definitely not a good idea for anyone who is hypo, or suspected to be hypo, to be taking it.
Magnesium testing isn't that reliable. Many of us take magnesium, especially if we supplement with D3 for low Vit D level as it is an important cofactor which helps the body use D3.
I think your first step should be full thyroid/vitamin testing such as
Medichecks Thyroid Check Ultravit medichecks.com/thyroid-func... and code MED99 gives 20% discount if used by the end of October
or
Blue Horizon Thyroid Check Plus Eleven bluehorizonmedicals.co.uk/t... - I've just had a pop up discount code for 15% - oct15
