Hello, does anyone supplement their children with Selenium? It has been recommended for my 6 year old by her FD (200mcg every 3 days) but im apprehensive as she hasn’t been tested for selenium deficiencies and i feel that is a high dose. Thanks

For a child that age I would certainly want a test before agreeing to use the supplement.

Selenium can be tested with a blood or urine sample. I have no idea which is the best test.

Well the Blue horizon one tests lots of other things too

I don’t think Medichecks will test children, so that may make decision for you

I just googled private blood testing for children and an old post from here came up saying Blue horizon also don’t test children? Has this policy changed then? M

Blue horizon test under 18s, medichecks don’t. I looked into it for thyroid testing for my daughter

Thanks so much

I give my son ionic selenium drops in his water. You can also get a chewable multi-vitamin with selenium. Dr. Nervous and Amy Myers has one. Mary Arusha Organics sells liquid and gummy supplements with selenium. If your child can eat nuts, I think one Brazil nut a day is enough to meet RDA. Too much selenium can be harmful though so just be aware.
