For the past 4 weeks or so I have been suffering with sore throat and cough that gets worse at night. Initially I thought it was a cold and tried natural remedies like honey, lemon lots of Vit C and rest but it did not help. So I visited a GP and he said it was an inflammation and gave antibiotics. I was very reluctant as am very much against them but I took them but they made no difference. Eventually, tired of this I saw another GP who did allergy testing which revealed I had dust mite allergy. Doctor believes this is causing my symptoms.
Has anyone experienced similar?
I am Hashi, on 3 grains of compounded Armour. Have been working on nutrient and all now optimal (upper ranges). Other than that sore throat and cough I feel best I have in years!!! 🤗

Hi SlowDragon, I don’t think it is to be honest... it feels nothing like acid reflux (I experienced it once or twice in my life). My my has asthma too and she agreed she has similar symptoms at times. I just wondered if anyone here had experience with asthma and dust mite allergy and perhaps some natural treatment options as I refused inhaler and medication.
I did have a dust mite allergy. But my symptoms were runny nose and painful sinuses. I had desensitisation injects for about a year, and it doesn't bother me now.
That’s very interesting greygoose. I haven’t heard of these injections so I’ll ask my GP if this could be available to me. Have you had any side effects from the injections? I always worry about these and not wanting to make things worse with thyroid 🙂
Well, this was about 40 years ago, and my memory is terrible, but I don't think I had any side-effects. Also, I had them in France, where I live. I heard that they weren't available in the UK at that time - some rot about oh, it takes such a long time and it might not work, kind of c**p, any excuse not to spend money. But, things could have changed? Worth asking, anyway.
I have a dust mite allergy. I found special steam machine and chemical treatments useless. Removing the bedroom carpet and using mite proof mattress and pillow covers helped. Beware that some mite proof covers are not mite proof and just contain chemicals that kill the mites - I do not want to sleep on that! (watch out for anything ending in 'cide'). I also use a HEPA vacuum, some vacuums can be made HEPA by simply using a different filter. I use a Miele rather than a special vacuum cleaner that will be more expensive and poorer quality.
If you want to be sure it's dust mites try and plan a holiday to a country that is fairly hot or high altitude and very dry, mites can't survive in a dry athmosphere. Sorry if some of these suggestions involve expense.
Hi Jim! Thanks for your advice! Really helpful. Unfortunately I live in a rented apartment and it’s all carpeted 😢 only moved here two months ago or so and the whole asthma thing started soon after! I think it might be either a coincidence or the reason for my symptoms. I live in Sydney and while it is very hot in summer it is also very humid and apparently that’s what these little buggers love 😭
I wonder if you could give the carpet a good clean and then put down a thick plastic sheet (clear is better, they don't like sunlight). You might have to get the landlord's permission but I can't see them objecting if you explain and it will keep their carpet nice and clean. Ventilation will help but you need to take away their hiding places to be really effective. Avoid expensive sprays / steam cleaners, they don't work.
Agree with this comment. I have a dust mite allergy also and can say that's the most appropriate solution in this case. But I would recommend steaming and vacuuming all the carpets, blankets and any fabric in your apartment.
This article says dust mites can live even in food products, that's why kitchen place is also at risk. Hope you have contacted your landlord to sort this out.
