Hashimotos and Nature Throid

Hi I have been taking Nature Throid for about 18 mths I ran out and thought I would be able to get a private prescription from GP as Thyroid Uk say you can buy from chemist in UK rather than have it posted from US - quicker and cheaper. He's refusing to give me a prescription - anyone else had this issue?

At one time doctors used to prescribe NDTs on the NHS - then it was withdrawn mainly, I believe, due to False Statements being made about it by those who should know better. NDTs being in use from 1892 up until a short while ago.

One of our Advisers wrote the following to the Associations and requested a response to it every year for three years before his death but they never did. One cannot really argue with a scientific explanation so it was ignored completely.

Unfortunately, all doctors were told to no longer prescribe NDT. Then it has been followed with a directive not to prescribe T3 either.

So hypothyroid patients have no option but to remain symptomatic if levo doesn't suit or dose is kept too low or their body reacts badly to synthetic hormones.

Therefore patients have been forced to take levothyroxine alone - an inactive synthetic hormone which has to convert to the Active T3 (without which we cannot recover at all). T4 is inactive. T3 is the only Active thyroid hormone needed in the millions of T3 receptor cells in our bodies. Some bodies are able to convert sufficient T4 but many others cannot. I think most are on this forum.

To get a prescription you'd have to consult a Private Endocrinologist which means a big consultation fee I assume. He then may not prescribe so you'd have to do your homework first. Thyroiduk.org.uk have a list of private endos and you can email Dionne at the following:-

thank you so much you have saved me a lot of time. I've given in and ordered from US as Barry Peatfield told me where to get it but having been on Thyroid UK and spoken to the chemists they recommended it's immediately available and cheaper - so wrong on so many levels. Do you know if CBD oil is beneficial for Hashimotos at all?

I teach complementary therapies and have alot of students/contacts in the industry - if there are any petitions out there or anyone I can signpost people to who might support some activisim please let me know and I will raise as much awareness as I can
