Collected results from GP today, all normal, despite the fact that I feel dreadful. I am being referred to endo but have now been told the referral may be refused due to everything being normal, however I am slightly hopeful because the GP does think I have a Goitre. Currently taking Vit d/k2 and magnesium. My private blood test results are in my previous post. I did bring a list of my symptoms asked if I should supplement folate and B12, but was told there was no need every thing is normal. Normal is such a frustrating word. Results in photo hope they are readable

Your folate and B12 may be within range but you may benefit from supplementing to improve with a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid

Before you start any vitamin B supplements you may want to test homocysteine and MMA

Using test of Homocysteine levels to check for low b12

Oral may be as good as injections

Once you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

If you have symptoms of low B12 you may need sublingual B12 lozenges too

Vitamin D, It's trial and error what dose each person needs. Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there. Retesting twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Interesting that your ferritin level has dropped since private test

'Normal' in doctor-speak just means 'in-range'. You doctor will have no idea of what is normal and what isn't. I think she's proved that. :)

Sounds like a ‘normal’ unsatisfactory consultation with a GP about a thyroid condition ...

We are all being told normal on here but often some ajustment can make a huge difference. You could really do with some B12 and folate. I have come to the conclusion that normal blood results mean that you are not about to drop dead. Normal blood results do not mean that you will have the levels of fitness and wellbeing that you would want for yourself. Taking some vitamins will do you no harm at all and you need to decide whether to believe us or your doctor who does not appear to be able to offer you much. With your B12 that low I would be inclined to try patches or sublingual lozenges to ensure you absorb.

hi there,

your results look so familar.

i was orginally diagnosed with vit d deficiency (20) and b12 def (169). and fyi my wbc count was 9.5. tsh .8, ft4 7.1 range 4.5- 12.0 (34% of range) ft3 3.0 range 2.3- 4.2 (36% of range) i took 5000 iu of d with A and K daily for 16 months and it only increased to 39. i also took 220 mg of b12 daily for those same 16 months and it only raised to 242. and by the way i felt worse!

long story short, 3 horrible years later, i demanded testing for h pylori, which i thought would be negative because i did not have the classic symptom of heartburn, but low and behold it was positive. i took treatment. still feeling crap 3 months later i demanded a retest and i was still positive!!! of course by then, everyone including myself thought i might be a hypochondriac. but uhm...NO!

we have vit D receptors in our stomach and intestines so if stomach has h pylori those don't function properly. we have intrensic factor cells in our stomach, so if have h pylori those are damaged and dont function properly.

And if you have h pylori and eat meat your ferritin (iron storage) can increase due to the body attempting to protect itself. iron is needed by all bacteria to thrive, so during an infection the body reduces serum iron and pushes iron into storage. you will still have enough serum iron to produce red blood cells but not enough for any energy for you. this is called anemia of chronic inflamation or disease. you can google this.

after treatment for h pylori my serum iron went from 69 or 68 (2 tests) to 109 which is optimal and my transferrin saturation percentage went from 21 or 24 (2 tests) to 35 which is also optimal.

my ft4 and ft3 but came up to over 60% of range.

im not completely well but i am way better.

best of luck and health
