hi , i’m going to see a consultant soon and hoping they finally put me on thyroxine but when they do i think they will tell me to take it in the morning . i read it can be better to take at night because it absorbs more . does anyone have any thoughts on this and how each option affects you during the day and during sleep etc i just want to get it straight in my head what my preference is before i talk to consultant about it .
levo at night or morning ? : hi , i’m going to... - Thyroid UK
levo at night or morning ?
You just have to try and see which suits you, there is no right or wrong as we are all different. I take mine at night.
If consultant is up to date they may recommend taking at night
Some people try bedtime dosing and don't like it, others find it better or more convenient
I always thought it was better to take it in the morning? Perhaps the reason for that is to make sure your stomach is empty. I've also heard of some people setting an alarm in the middle of the night to take the pills and go back to sleep, but I suppose that depends on how easily you can wake up and do something then fall back asleep
Why talk to the consultant about it? None of his business. He gives you the prescription and you take it in the best way for you.
Thanks for the reminder (which I needed while strategizing far too much in advance of seeing the doctor tomorrow) M.
greygoose ,
LOL !!! Love how you say it like it is .
I think you should concentrate on the amount he prescribes you. Starting dose should be 50 mg. I have taken Levothyroxine morning and nightime. Made no difference except my blood tests showed it was absorbed better in the evening. When he asks you to take a blood test, do this fasting earliest appointment but don't take your Levothyroxine until after, otherwise the results will be obscured. He won't tell you to do this but people on here are advised accordingly. Try to focus on your symptoms, you need an optimal dose to get rid of them. Hope you are one of the lucky ones where Levothyroxine can get you well in a short space of time. Some of us not so lucky.
me too thank you
I take mine at 5:00pm. This works for me.
