I've been taking levo past 20 years in morning but only just caught on that I mustn't have it with my cup of coffee (!) ..so the last year or so have been trying to set alarm hour earlier take it go back to sleep then have breakfast so it's slowing my whole morning as I'm always tired.
Can I change and take it before bed with my melatonin?(just started taking melatonin)...maybe take levo 3 hrs after eating do 11.30pm?...but will have to take melatonin at same time or at about 10.30pm?
Will taking levo affect my sleep?I'm already having sleep issues.
I am having levo levels blood checked on Tuesday so any changes in timings I'd do after that?
Thanks in advance

I know nothing about how melatonin interacts with levothyroxine, or the other ingredients. But if you put that to one side, the blog linked below might be worth reading.

Discussion about taking levothyroxine at bed-time. Several linked references to relevant papers.
Melatonin should be taken several hours before you expect to go to sleep so around 9pm, thats when I take mine as I was told to. It doesnt work the same as a sleeping tablet that you would take at bedtime.
You can then still take Levo at around 11.30 - midnight.
Taking Levo at bedtime helps some people sleep better.
How long have you been taking melatonin?..can I ask how much doseage wise for melatonin and for levo?am also wondering if to split the levo night AND morning..may be a palaver
I was buying melatonin for a year or so then got sleep clinic to take it over eventually. The prescribing rules have changed so now my GP prescribes which I dont think they were able to originally. Melatonin is 3mg.
You could try splitting Leo, it does seem to help some but I've never tried it due to hastle.
If taking magnesium then maybe move that forward to around 5-6pm?
Alternatively use a magnesium spray which you could use at bedtime as through the skin it wont affect levo or anything else.
Have tried all sorts of timings with magnesium and just before dinner works best for me, despite many finding late evening works for them. So for me, usually around 6pm but I’ve been known to take it much earlier
All of this is different for everyone so conducting your own experimentation is really the only way to find what works for you. Yes, bear in mind others’ experiences of tried and tested regimes but if you find what works for Janet doesn’t work for John then there’s nothing to stop you doing your own thing
When I have taken melatonin in the past, I took it when I get into bed… for me I find it works within 10-20 minutes. The same for my daughter.
I know many people take an hour or so before, so just wanted to reply and note that as with many things, everyone can be different. I think I read somewhere that it works quicker on an empty stomach, which is logical but I’m not sure.
I will take 5-10 mgs depending on how awake/tired I am. Maybe I could take less I’m not sure. I’m in the US, no prescription needed.
The cool thing when I started taking magnesium (which I take with my D, but 4 hours away from everything else) I found I didn’t need melatonin at all. Unless something super stressful is going on, then I will, but magnesium did wonders for my sleep.
You may find you no longer need melatonin if you switch to bedtime. Worked for me. However, this may still require some tweaking. I was originally taking mine (a glandular, admittedly) just before closing my eyes, usually anywhere between 10 and 11.30pm but this last couple of weeks I’ve been experimenting with earlier in the evening and find this seems to be working better for me. Still not quite right though but I have some timing options I’m yet to explore, so there’s hope yet
Hello, I just read your post and wanted to add that Dr Peatfield says in his book that it doesn’t matter about taking levo away from your morning coffee. Admittedly it does decrease absorption but you shouldn’t deprive yourself of all life's little pleasures. After reading this I don’t think it can hamper absorption all that much. Hope this helps.x
