I saw a nutritionist recently who said I have Candida. I was told to eat a clove of raw garlic everyday to help kill off Candida... also take some good probiotics to help the good bacteria win, either get it in real food like kefir or buy something like this : bionutri.co.uk/ecodophilus/

I open the capsule and sprinkle it in my morning smoothie. Try to avoid sugary foods and drink 5ltrs of water a day.

5 litres of water is a lot! And I don't see how that relates to dealing with candida overgrowth. chriskresser.com/hydration-...

Great thanks already taking probiotics and stopped eating sugar too

5 litres of water is a lot. I have kidney stones and was told to drink 3 but even with adding in an extra drink here and there I only make 2. I could never drink 5.

Oops sorry that should have read pints not litres!

Candida feeds off sugar so as SleepyGardener says you have to cut sugar and cakes, biscuits, pastries, bread and also cut down on fruit if you eat a lot. Take her advice about the probiotics etc and change your eating habits eat veggies, good fats and some protein.

I have gut candida. I though this podcast was pretty good on the subject. I'm currently following a low oxalate diet (as oxalates feed the candida), and take a number of probiotics to help the good bacteria win out. You'll need to follow this diet for at least 3 months.

Why don’t you test for it first? Candida symptoms list is so broad it’s hard to find anyone who wouldn’t relate to at least a few. I myself thought I had it which it turned out I didn’t. The diet is incredibly limiting so I wouldn’t do it unless really had to. There is a lot of herbs that help kill it too like oils of oregano, pau darco etc. quite pricy too so better to check first before making the investment too.

Can I ask how you tested for candida? I did a gut health test, which flagged candida as one of my problems, but it was pricey. I'd like to test again to see if the candida has gone, but don't fancy the full cost of the original test.

Joanneconnor profile image
Joanneconnor in reply toCooper27

You have to be referred to gastrointestinal specialist for GI pathogen test

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27 in reply toJoanneconnor

Thanks, I didn't realise the NHS tested for it. I'm not likely to be referred, but it's useful to know.

Hey Cooper! I had it done through a naturopath. She was convinced I had Candida or SIBO but turned out it was neither. I simply had inflammation which an Ayurvedic doctor treated with herbs. I’m all good now. Even my lactose intolerance reversed! Before I would get bloated from simply looking at cheese! It was awful so I completely sympathise with everyone who is going through tummy troubles. I suffered 7 years and spent a fortune trying to cure myself so I completely understand.

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27 in reply toAnnaSo

Thanks! Do you know how much the test cost for you?

AnnaSo profile image
AnnaSo in reply toCooper27

It was as a part of a combo, something like 400 dollars (Australian). Don’t remember exact number as was over year ago but definitely around the 400 and not cheap! 😕 I always few though that it’s worth it, otherwise might invest emotionally and financially into the whole Candida thing and get disappointed when the treatment doesn’t work few months down the line. Wasted time, energy and money.

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27 in reply toAnnaSo

It's not cheap is it? I would like to re-test to see if my candida has gone, but I'm not that desperate to know!

AnnaSo profile image
AnnaSo in reply toCooper27

Yes, very pricy unfortunately, there is another test looking at the whole microbiom and that was like 600!

mcooper profile image
mcooper in reply toCooper27

Hello I went for colonic irrigation and the nurse who did it went through a Candida questionnaire with me. She could physically see the Candida strands and showed them to me on the screen. Her advice was to cut sugar completely use a little stevia if desperate. Good luck

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27 in reply tomcooper

Does the colonic help get rid of the candida at all?

mcooper profile image
mcooper in reply toCooper27

Hi Yes it did help, I only had two sessions, the suggested number of sessions is 5. It definitely helped with bloating also. The lady I saw was in Northolt, West London. If you need any further details let me know.

AnnaSo profile image
AnnaSo in reply tomcooper

That’s interesting. I was advised by my Ayurvedic doctor to have it but I was too scared to go I had one irrigation in the past and it went well but somehow I’m scared.

mcooper profile image
mcooper in reply toAnnaSo

Not the most pleasant experience but I felt wonderful afterwards and it lasted for days. I would recommend it.

AnnaSo profile image
AnnaSo in reply tomcooper

How did you feel after mcooper? The one I had was 8 years ago and I remember my bloating went away but don’t remember not much more... I’m really struggling with fatigue these days...

mcooper profile image
mcooper in reply toAnnaSo

Hi Anna, I felt refreshed and comfortable, not bloated and sluggish like I normally feel, but as my bad eating habits returned so did my problems..

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27 in reply toAnnaSo

I sympathise! I'm half tempted, but also just hate the idea of putting anything anywhere it doesn't belong!! :)

I think if my gut issues keep up I'd try it, but for now I'll blast it with probiotics.

Joanneconnor profile image
Joanneconnor in reply toAnnaSo

I know I have it every tine I eat a piece of toast then again the next day I end up in hospital my gall bladder goes into over drive!

AnnaSo profile image
AnnaSo in reply toJoanneconnor

That doesn’t sound like Candida to me. You could have gall stones? Very common with thyroid issues. Have you had a tummy scan since the symptoms developed?

Joanneconnor profile image
Joanneconnor in reply toAnnaSo

Yes had all sorts of scans, nothing!

AnnaSo profile image
AnnaSo in reply toJoanneconnor

I really sympathise... I myself been suffering with tummy issues without any explanation for 7 years and no one had a clue what’s going on so I have looked into literally everything. What sort of symptoms o you get?

Joanneconnor profile image
Joanneconnor in reply toAnnaSo

It’s been going on about 7 years myself, I have Hashimotos which in turn lead to other people things ! I now have PBC and I think the Candida can’t escape, I’ve tried GF and AIP diet they did help a lot but even with the things taken out as soon as they added them again, I would bloat massively be crawling around the floor, the pain was worse than child birth, around the gall bladder and liver area, constant acid indigestion no matter what I ate, only been on Candida and Gf diet 2 days and no acid or swelling 😄

AnnaSo profile image
AnnaSo in reply toJoanneconnor

Oh dear, that sounds dreadful. Glad the diet is working though! Hope you get better soon, fingers crossed! ☺️

Thanks AnnaSo, keep you posted

What is Boron?

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministrator in reply toAri3

Boron is one of the 94 naturally occurring chemical elements. Also reasonable to have a quick look at Wiki for such things:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boron

Quite what form kills candida, how to get it, how to take it, and all the other important information is, sadly, missing from reallyfedup123's response. Most importantly, any side effects or other reasons to be careful with or avoid it.

I had a candida overgrowth due to repeated antibiotic use, and am now on top of it. The best test for it is an Organic Acids Test, which measures the waste products in your urine. However, it is expensive. I have found the best anti-fungals to be Oregano Oil, Garlic and a tincture called A-FNG.

Is this test in uk?

Yes. There is this one:

Or our old friends Medichecks do one:

You've said this before about boron, but you don't point us at any evidence about how or why.

On my phone, which is really just a small tablet, I can click on the address bar at the top and view the link.

I could then write it down on a piece of paper, go to where I want to put the link, and type it in.

Even adding to your reply something like "I was on RFU Health site, there is a link on the Home page" or "On that site, use the site search to look for 'RFU's latest blog'".

I thought i had candida but turned out to be Lichen Sclerosus. Itching and soreness around anus and vulva with white patches. It's frequently seen in people with auto immune thyroiditis and most common in women post menopause.

Telling members to go off and google is simply not acceptable.

Just why should we believe this apparently random individual against the rest of the world? Explain! If he had been so effectively hushed up, we wouldn't be able to find whatever it is he has apparently posted somewhere.

And no its not dangerous toxic or anything else ...

However, it does affect foetuses, so it appears:

Boron exposure through drinking water during pregnancy and birth size

Annachiara Malin Igraa Florencia Hararia Ying Lua Esperanza Casimirob Marie Vahtera

doi.org/10.1016/j.envint.20...

Highlights

Elevated water boron levels appear common worldwide but more screening is warranted.

Boron has been suggested to be a developmental toxicant but human data is scarce.

We studied a mother-child cohort exposed to water boron (0.4–10 mg/L) in Argentina.

Serum boron > 80 μg/L was inversely associated with birth length and weight.

A 100 μg/L increase in serum boron was associated with 120 g lighter newborns.

sciencedirect.com/science/a...

I'd be very careful before considering boron if there is any possibility of pregnancy.
